Yeah, that's the problem with these things. You're not getting any real emotion out of them. I'm never going to pull off Tina Turner's "We Don't Need Another Hero." It would be laughable.

You have to know the limitations and work with them. I have done some tracks that were really done well because I knew how to get the most out of what I had to work with and didn't try to make it do things it can't do.

Here's a prediction folks, like it or not. With the vast improvement of Vocaloid 5, professional producers ARE going to use it.

I guess you can boycott their music too but it's not going to stop the inevitable.

This Vocaloid is a game changer for certain genres.

Well, I guess this is a matter of opinion too because I think some samples sound like shite and yet people use them.
Of course it is. As I said, I have no deep seated objection to Vocaloid etc, just don't like the sound of it, you may love it. :scared:
Nope, don't love it. Would obviously prefer a real singer. But for me, for certain things, it's more than usable. I just don't object to it as much as some people do. And in some cases, yeah, I actually like the way it sounds.

Like this track.

I have just discovered there is a Vocaloid voicebank called Arsloid.

I cant help but think they should focus on vocal products first.
my other modular synth is a bugbrand

I think 3rd party vendors are going to be all over this and we're going to see a slew of Vocaloid voice banks.

I hope so, or that Yamaha comes out with more voices quickly. The two new English Vocaloid 5 voices sound amazing on their own terms, but I'm not sure how they'd work in a synthpop context (which is what I'd probably use them mainly with). Wags, I'm looking forward to a Vocaloid 5 track from you if / when you upgrade so I can see how the voice sits.

Is it possible to do the upgrade from Tiny Vocaloid3 Editor (i.e., is that essentially the same as VOCALOID3 Editor SE)?

There is no question in my mind that they'll be fine. But even right now, there are certain Vocaloids I only use for certain things because they don't really fit elsewhere.

Cyber Diva

She's great for EDM, pop, and light rock stuff. She's the only American Vocaloid to date. In this track I processed the hell out of her voice so it's not her natural sound but not too much different.

Cyber Songman

He has kind of a Cajun or Jamaican accent. It's hard to describe. I find him best for R&B, funk, stuff like that.

YOHIO

I find him best for power pop and boy band stuff. Here's a different track from the one I posted above.

Daina

Sometimes she sounds like she's singing with marbles or gum in her mouth. I use her for pop ballads and light stuff.

Ruby

She has an odd sounding voice. I find I use her for slow torch song kind of stuff or just odd things. I'd never use her for Summer Love. She just doesn't sound right for that kind of stuff. Here's a good example of what I like to do with her.

Avanna

You heard "The Clock On The Wall". She's got a soft soothing voice. She's useless for pop stuff because her tone is too soft. So I use her strictly for ballads. Here's another one with Avanna. She is extremely difficult to process because her mids have a ton of resonance.

Dex

I used to use Dex a lot for uptempo pop and rock male stuff but since I got YOHIO not as much. He has kind of a slight country rock sounding voice without the country accent. He's pretty versatile but his sound quality isn't as good as YOHIO's, IMO.

This is one of my favorite Dex songs though I think YOHIO would do a better job (did not have him at the time)

And those are all the Vocaloids that I own.

Most used now in order?

YOHIO
Cyber Diva
Daina
Dex
Cyber Songman
Ruby
Avanna

Just like any great vocal, it's all in the performance.

Good is the new mediocre.

I think you mean the other way around. Mediocre is the new good.

All I know is this. I can't sing for shit, so I'd be lost without Vocaloid and all this music that I've created would have never gotten made.

Vocaloid has opened up a whole new world for me.
