What synth can make a nice formant lead like the one in KW's Neon Lights?
I tried all the formant synths and they don't seem to be geared toward it..

Have you tried Vbox-X from http://www.krakli.co.uk (on the 'legacy plugs' page)?
I managed to knock up a similar sound using that, patch is here.
that's if we're talking about the same sound, anyway

it's the MINIMOOG MODEL-D.
so you can buy
ARTURIA MINIMOOG (200EUR)
or the STEINBERG MODEL-E
(included in Cubasis5 for 30EUR)
or try some Free/Donationware
like Antti's Asynth.

Hrmmmm...
Maybe the bass -
But I don't the lead formant lead is a Mini Moog.
MM doesn't have a formant filter, and that's a more light airy sound....

ok... http://www.lardpony.co.uk/vst/neonlicht.fxb
hopefully the first preset in this bank is the one I've made (rest are all from default bank). it's not perfect but it's pretty close to the sound in neon lights and with a bit of tweaking could probably be spot-on.
I hope!

What has Steinbergs Model-E to do with a MiniMoog? It has the same Design and Structure but nothing more...vista wrote: according to

@kodama
I'm pretty sure you can do nice Formant Sounds with the Arturia MoogModularV...

You have to click on the legacy/discontinued synths.
I'm talking about the lead sound that sounds like vaguely like a girl singing "waaa".
Lardpony - you're on the right track!
I wonder what synth they actually used?
