Got this in my email....

Image-line announces the release of Sytrus 1.5, featuring a greatly enhanced filter section, new effects, enhanced harmonics editing, and new presets. Sytrus provides endless sonic possibilities in one easy-to-use synth, with 6 oscillators combining FM, subtractive, and additive synthesis.
Check it out here: http://www.kvraudio.com/showme/308/

Did this email slip out by mistake? I'm not seeing anything anywhere about 1.5

I haven't seen anything yet but that's interesting. Does the email discuss new features?

That's all there was in the email.....I think I got it due to a 'watch' that I had switched on for Sytrus.

The news came out a little too soon. While it's ready we're now working on testing it & updating the help, web site, etc.

here's the bigger harmonics editor some asked for:

Looks like a good addition, gol. Judging by the image, there is now the option to save waveforms (saw the drop down, similar to what is in envelopes to "Save State")?
Cool addition, if it is.

Thanks for listening to us too, by the way :-) Very much appreciated.

my god does that look good...

there is now the option to save waveforms
not to save them but load them

the menu does:
-(single-cycle only) wav import (into 128 harmonics)
-conversion of the shape (at the top) into harmonics (so that you start with a saw, turn it into harmonics, and mess with them)
-tools to play with harmonics (shifting, copy/paste as addition, blending, etc)

It's now 128 harmonics, which is enough to get real bright shapes at low pitches.
And they can now be band-limited no to have to use the CPU-costy oversampling to avoid aliasing in presets that don't use FM.

I already posted this demo, but anyway:

(and I know there are better string ensembles in romplers out there, but this is synthesized)

that link doesn't seem to work

edit: the slashes are reversed... that's it

indeed
this didn't seem to bother IE from here, though

if you multiply the amplitudes of those harmonics by

128 sin(n*pi/128)/n/pi,

n is the harmonic index from 1 - 128,

you get rid (for the most part) of Gibb's phenomenon
probably a bit late to implement...

it's not too late, and I did read about gibb's phenomenon already, but I haven't been too convinced. The question is WHY want to get rid of it?
From my tests I couldn't find any problem, but I do agree that there's something if you start to slide the band-limited waveform up or down, it aliases worse than a non-bandlimited waveform. But otherwise.. anyway I'll give a try.

But I'll try to make add it as a tool if it makes sense.

I know I read what was the gibbs effects and how to remove it, but the paper wasn't telling why that gibbs effects was actually bad, audio-wise.

Hehe -- Dave, would you like a game of chess?
When I was younger I used to be in doubt. These days I'm not so sure.

Ok I implemented it, seems to work fine.

Now I still don't know what it's good for, but if it's just to get the same sound with a slightly lower peak, then it indeed can't hurt.

looks great 8)
