I'm looking for a synth that will accept LIVE audio input and process it on the fly.
What I want to do is process my voice with a soft synth in a live performance setting.
Is there a instrument that can accept voice input and mangle it on the fly?
I'm not looking to do anything conventional like vocoding.
Latency could be an issue, but don't consider it for now...

I know Minimonsta has an external input, and while I can't remember any others off the top of my head, I know they're out there. What kind of processing do you want to do, though? FM, Ring Mod, simple filtering?

FM7, Reaktor, Absynth 3, Pro-52/53, and Pentagon to name a few more.

2 or 3 synths from Psychic Modulation Neurosynth pack allow it. And they're inexpensive too.sdv wrote: I think some of the PsychicModulation synths and z3ta+ allow for live mangling as well??

MS-20 can do it. ImpOSCar's supposed to have an update to accept external audio too if what i've heard is right...

I would call that an effect and not an instrument.Exit Zero wrote:Is there a instrument that can accept voice input and mangle it on the fly?
It is not vocoding you said, but what specifically do you want to be done to your voice? Anything that can not be done by e.g. Kjaerhus' Classic Auto Filter?

tbh I think all answers up to now are on the wrong track - I could be wrong of course...
all the mentioned synths can process audio just like conventional (multi-)fx so I don't think that's what he's looking for...
I think he's looking for something like Kantos, Alien Solo or SuperEel
Kantos:

Alien Solo:

Yep, we need more feedback from ExitZero. A more specific description of expectations than "process" and "mangle" would help!jens wrote:tbh I think all answers up to now are on the wrong track - I could be wrong of course...

Vokator (http://www.nativeinstruments.de/index.php?vokator_us) from NI can accept live input too. Nothing like vocoding your voice/drums/etc live!

Actually, I kept it slightly vague on purpose. So far there have been some excellent suggestions. Keep it coming folks.
Basically I'm looking for unusual or interesting processing other than the usual tricks (delays, reverbs, filters, etc.) Something different...
