1st quarter of 2005 could mean anytime up until the end of this month, so I reckon it'll be ready soon. I bet it'll be worth the wait .

I would like to know more about this myself. AAS doesn't even have any audio demos up. For a product that is supposed to be coming out at the end of the first quarter, no one really knows much about it.

There's a picture of it in the latest Computer Musik. The gui looks like a failed attempt to borrow from Emagic design concepts - all circles - but unlike Emagic's stuff no visual harmony. Looks like someone just took a protractor and drew a load of circles within circles and said "hey a gui".

A comment in CM or FM (can't remember which) said they had heard it at NAMM and that it is an orchestral strings synth using physical modelling and offering full control over articulation, so imagine the power of Garretan Strings without the enourmous sample library - who knows, could be pretty cool...polyslax wrote:Anyone heard anything else about AAS String Studio since NAMM?
Sounds intriguing, but the the lack of details other than the few on their site is making me wonder whether this thing is anywhere near finished.

No I don't think it meant Orchestral strings like Garritan etc. They were just including it in a comment about upcoming products and themed them as "string" related. AFAIK String Studio is more about physical models of plucked and bowed etc strings so it will probably have models of guitars and other plucked instruments, bowed instruments like violins etc as well as all sorts of esoteric hybrids and unknown instruments (like Tassman does but more specialised) but I don't expect it to be a substitute for an Orchestral library.

Well, was just a guess because it mentioned articulation, which usually refers to bowing rather than anything else.aMUSEd wrote:No I don't think it meant Orchestral strings like Garritan etc. They were just including it in a comment about upcoming products and themed them as "string" related. Well I might be proved wrong It's just that going by Tassman some of these models use a lot of CPU so unless they have heavily optimised the engine it would be hard to recreate an orchestra with them - at least all or even many at once - obviously you could do stuff an instrument or to at a time or a small ensemble maybe at most. But I don't think it's direct competition for the Orchestral soundsets yet.

That's in Tassman - maybe SS is better optimised. They do say it has an improved engine so who knows.

I will keep my fingers crossed then, String Theory has a low cpu hit so why should a top tuned product from a big software house like AAS be less so,..... forget I said that, It would not be nice if they prove me wrong, and I would have to eat my words in me again.

Worse than Plugsound (although there's a similarity or two). Not as bad as Kantos, though - that GUI reminds me of a VST that's been assimilated.

See what I mean - what a mess!
(It will probably sound good though but what were they thinking?)
