Erhu (chinese violin) PM VST?

I would like to use the sound of the erhu (the chinese violin) for one of my compositions. I'm wondering if there's some instrument that is able to creat this sounds with physical modelling, or some reaktor ensemble. Alternatively, a good set of samples could do the job, but since I would like to put some portamento and pitch bend movements, I thing that the use of samples will lead to a very unconvincing result. Any help on this will be really appreciated

Thanks a lot, this semms exactly what I'm looking for, but the problem is that the file does not exist anymore! It would be great if someone knows a new location for the file or could mail it to me

From what I know, the Mini-Erhu VSTi was build around a soundfont. Maybe it was this very font...

I was referring to the minierhu; I have found the soundfont on the separate page and downloaded it, I will let you know my impressions as soon as I can try it. Still, I hope that someone is going to find the missing minierhu and let me know how to find it...

IIRC, the samples used in Mini-Erhu weren't in the public domain so the author removed it. A shame, as they had a very good throaty tone.
(When it turned out not to be legal I deleted my copies of the plug-in and the soundfont. Not without regrets but that's how it goes. *sigh*)

I'm very hopeful that the Garritan Solo Strad could possibly have an erhu mode someday. I pointed out in an early demo that low-pitch portamento playing sounded similar to an erhu, and Giorgio Tommasini (the developer) said that he noticed the same thing, which pleased him as he also loves the erhu!
I suppose I'll give him and Garritan a little extra hint in that direction soon.

Well, the basis of physical modelling is breaking the instrument's construction down into its representative components that can be approximated in mathematical functions. A Stadavari does have some harshness by simple virtue of it being a bowed instrument, and this harshness can be more prominent in different ranges of the instrument due to sympathetic resonances.Meffy wrote:=o.O= A Strad sample recreating the harsh tone of an erhu? In a million years I'd not have guessed that!
So once these components are analyzed and modelled, and their interactions are connected, one aspect can be accentuated to bring about more of that particular character than was found in the original instrument.
Moreover, if an actual erhu was analyzed in an identical manner to the Strad, then a genetic offspring of the two could be created to combine their characteristics by morphing between them. It's fascinating stuff!
