Hi, I have just found this site the other day, and started to download instruments and effects. I have tried a few, including a mellotron, a couple of strings, organ and a Mini Moog replica. Unfortunately, only the Moog works, becuse it is an .exe file. A lot of these are in .dll format, which I dont know about. Do I need some other stuff to use these, and if so what?
Thanks.
Thanks.

FWIW
here are 3 "free" VSTi that all say mellotron in their description.

I think he's lacking a host. MiniMogueVA as I recall has a wrapper that would allow him to play it.

Yep, Minimogue is what im using. I would like to be able to use a couple of instruments at once, so what do you suggest?

Using SaviHost or whatever it's called... you can make your own exe files pretty easily.

Not sure exactly what you mean in terms of playing a couple at once:
Do you mean like alternating back and forth... like you are switching between live keyboards?
Do you mean playing multiple instruments simultaneously... like layering synths?
Do you mean recording multiple parts with different instruments?

Start it up, and click on one of the downward triangle arrows to select a VSTi to play. If you don't have a MIDI keyboard, you can click (anywhere) on the main Chainer window and use the computer keyboard to play notes. If you don't hear anything, make sure that your audio settings in the system menu are set to the right output. You'll need an ASIO driver, which depends on your soundcard. Google for ASIO4ALL if there is no ASIO driver listed.
Whew, that was a lot of "ifs"!
