80s brass sound - what's the source?

How to make that sound...

Hi all - I've been working on something with an 80s feel and spent a while trying to find a specific hard-attack brass sound that was in my head. Not sure what song I was originally thinking of, and can't Shazam my own brain (just yet), but I've at least found a track that uses it to demonstrate:

2:00-2:10 (apologies if there's a pre-roll ad) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cS_M91ZoIhc

It's that exact patch - very distinctive at a high pitch too and has a noticeable swell when played lower.

This really doesn't seem to be the DX7 or D50 type of sound from what I could tell (and those are often used to describe 80s keyboard brass!), but is it a famous Fairlight sample or something else?

Thanks to anyone who can identify the sound source.

Cheers,

Drew

I think it is indeed sample based. But SQ8L will get you incredibly close (I seem to remember my ESQ-1 having a patch very close sounding to that).
CrimsonWarlock aka TechnoGremlin, using Reaper and a fine selection of freeware plugins.

Yeah that's definitely a sample. Reminds me of Lionel Ritchie - All Night Long.

Have a look around for trumpet sample packs that wil either go in your samper of choice or Kontakt (i'm sure there's plenty of Kontakt libraries)

If you've got money to burn, you could have a look at the East West Quantum Leap stuff.

Or send St Lucia a message and ask them what they used at the end of this song! :)
