I was curious to see if anybody here would have any ideas as to how to re-create a sound similar to the one used in the song Past Life by Tame Impala.

The actual distortion sounds like a broken speaker but yet it has a cleanness to it. It sounds very intentional because of the way it's mixed but very raw because of the sound.

My quick take listening on my dinky work speakers - that's not distortion on the bass, sounds like a needle drop on an old/scratched vinyl record cranked up loud and repeated, mixed on top of the bass.

Hmmm...yeah, that is a killer sound. Not sure how to make it though, although it's bugging me that I don't how to because it seems familiar. I'll come back to it after I unwind my mind a bit.
