What I want:

1) a wealth of warm pads and newage drones
2) cool and rare presets

Actually, let me suggest something for you (since you seen to be after hardware anyway): The Roland JD990, preferably with the vintage card but for pads, you can use the special FX card as well (samples by Eric Persing)

If you want pads, that's THE machine to have.

Tassman is too CPU intensive for my PC so it crashed and I deleted it. Besides I didn't find any kewl sounds there.
'couse you need my Tassman sound bank and synth collection :hihi:

If we are suggesting other hardware synths, then Yamaha Sy77/99 is also worth a look. Not an obvious choice for warm evolving pads, but I think it can do those with ease. The multipont loopable envelopes help to keep the sound moving too. You can hear my presets here:

But the Z1 is a beauty. A classic.

I think you could be right. I heard the mp3 example on vintagesynth.com. It sounds wonderful. We are definitely on the right track. But no, I am not after hardware as such. I just want great sound.

I found a guy who will sell the JD990 with the Vintage Card, for $460 american dollars (that is 335 euro) Fair?

I can get the Korg Z1 for the same price...

Korg Wavestation A/D
Interesting but isn't that included in the software emulation of Korg Wavestation?
