You need an operatically trained rubber duck with strings!!! :o :o :-o

Multimeter will arrive Tuesday, soldering iron will arrive Wednesday. Paycheck won't arrive until Friday, so it's going to be about 10 days before I have the tools and a replacement switch. And, of course, new strings! And the whammy bar! And, and, and... argh.

Definitely going to swap the single-coil center pickup for a humbucker. :hihi:

I need 5 tones:

1. EVH bridge
2. Dimarzio Air Zone bridge
3. SRV neck + middle
4. Hendrix neck
5. John Fogerty neck humbucker + bridge humbucker

The closest I can get is with a Dimarzio Norton in the bridge, hum canceling single coils in the neck and middle, and a neck/bridge blend pot. Blending a little of the neck in can give the Norton some of the thickness of the Air Zone, and blending all the way up gives me an approximation of the Fogerty thing.

Now I just wish someone could give me that in the shape of a PRS. :help:

The good luck has nearly run out.

My tech is the main guitar man for a large chain of music stores in the North of England, or was, it seems after speaking to him they've changed the way they operate with guitars and no longer need his services. He didn't have enough *private* work to strike out on his own so has taken another job, but this has severely curtailed the amount of time he has to spend on the guitars he had booked in.

While he's not taking on new customers, those who have supported him over the years he'll try and fit in (inc myself) but this obviously means a delay, maybe January for me. I'm in no rush to have the new pups fitted on one guitar, it'd lay there untouched for a year, and the silent acoustic is by no means unplayable, it just needs tweaking to get the best out of it, so I'm happy to wait.
RIP Black Tom and Beckett. They weren't just cats, they were MY cats, the best cats ever.

Damn. That sucks on so many levels :x

Personally, even though I live in a very large metropolitan area (not LA large, but big enough)....techs are ROTTEN here!

I've really gotten into a more DIY mode. No, I'm saying you should go that route because there are prolly other options for you, but just saying......

With the pups, if it was just a case of one-out-one-in I could probably do it, but I want these buckers tapped and that, especially starting from square one with all the wiring, is beyond me I'm afraid, especially with my monkey-with-a-soldering-iron *technique* :hihi:

It isn't about the wait is it, Its the people being sold short and severed that have put in decades of top draw service. Sick of the way things are always only getting worse

Peace and rantish mode off

In Europe, you're able to get some versions of the Megaswitch that we can't get in the US. They make a lot of complex pickup combinations easy to accomplish. Personally, I'd love to get the E+ version:

He's good Dean, and to be fair he did take some work off the chain of stores who employed him by doing it *privately*, but I'm still amazed they've opted to go without a in house guitar tech. Guitars, amps, etc, will still count for a huge part of their sales and I can't believe they're intending to sell instruments with nothing but a out-of-the-box-factory-setup.

If it involves soldering, however simple, it'd still be a major, and likely insurmountable, challenge for me
