Acid techno has resparked the fun element of making music for me.
I still adore psy/goa but for fun, nothing compares to acid IMO.
And then on hardware it's just a perfect combo.
I'm therefore days (if not minutes) away from grabbing a TT303.
I've followed a massive thread on GS, but am looking for opinions from people I know and trust

You can hear "My First Twiddle" here done about 5 mins after starting the machine for the first time:
https://soundcloud.com/markholt/mh-tt303
I really like the sound and feel of the unit and the sequencing options are cool too, especially the ability to program a sequence and mutate it in to something similar. Even the sequence generation part throws up some nice surprises.
Edit: Footnotes from the SoundCloud page in case you didn't see them:
A quick noodle with my newest synth - a Bass Bot TT-303 (TB-303 clone). Eight different patterns. The first four are with square wave, the other four are sawtooth. I've tried to explore as much sonic potential as possible. The TT303 was recorded on to a Tascam DR-05 via my Johnson J-station for FX.

Heya Mushies 8D
Have you seen this drum sequencer->
http://www.sequentix.com/cirklon.htm
Could give the 808/909 feel with whatever samples.
I'd love one myself, maybe in future.
It's kinda OT, but I think this machine would be peachy for acid
single shot drums....
and buckets of fun
Otherwise- r u interested in XoX box?
could be an option
edit-
Here is the bass bot-
http://www.syntaur.com/TT303.html
omg- it looks like a 303.
So how come d16 couldn't model the knobs in software,
and here is a h/w clone?
Does it have a MIDI in peeps?
I loathe the 303 sequencer

It has MIDI in and out. Out is especially cool since I can drive my other synths with that. Setting it to be master means you can easily change tempo on your other stuff including DAW with a twist of the tempo knob.

Thanks for upping the demo Mark,
I'd love one of these boxes.
Will get one at some stage.
Sounds authentic IMO,
and I'm impressed by the clone build more than the XoX
The MIDI will be my seq I guess,
unless I can learn to love the interface.

The sequencer is arguably the best part of a TB.
You've pretty much sold me on one

Its great , having owned both a TB 303 and TT 303 i would have to say the TT303 is fantastic , spot on sound and midi +arp which the original didn't have , in fact i'm using mine right now and cant wait for the Drum Drone TT606 which is coming out soon.

Ps you can drive your modular synths with it too via its cv gate outputs

What?! Amazing.risome wrote:Drum Drone TT606 which is coming out soon.
Would prefer a 909 though

Antto who built the Venom clone thinks the same. I guess it can aid in happy accidents, but it makes me think too much for my addled receptors. With the neat MIDI built in- ta for bringing TT up- imma get 2 maybeMushy Mushy wrote:How dare younix808 wrote:I loathe the 303 sequencer
I am a pianoroll fan- immediacy versus a convoluted interface IMO--

I own two clones - both the x0xb0x and TT-303.
If I was to keep just one it'd probably be the TT-303. It's not perfect but it does sound great and it's easier to program than the x0xb0x IMO (which has two button combinations for a lot of operations).
I reviewed the TT-303 when it was first released here...

the TT-303 sequencer is not the same as the original, even if it has the same labels on the interface, there is no Tap-write mode, and there are some differences in the time mode / pitch mode behaviour (and probably more diffs but i can't tell more because i haven't seen a good demonstration of its sequencer yet)
the big plus is that it looks identical to the orignal
the big minus is that it lacks things from the original, and i question whether you'll get long-term support for it, they don't have a website after so many months of the thing being sold
that doesn't matter if you like it as-is of course
also, the price is too high, this thing is mass-produced, smd components, a fair price for it should be comparable to a brand-new x0xb0x (or cheaper even)
i agree that the x0xb0x sequencer isn't too nice, i especially hate that stuff with pressing "Done" to save patterns.. and in case you don't know, i'm working on a completely new sequencer interface for the x0x, with all of the TB-303 features, plus more
the x0x doesn't look like a 303, but has all the specs of a 303 (dinsync, cv/gate out..) AND midi in/thru/out and USB
it can be used as a dinsync2midi or midi2dinsync converter, drive your modular synths with the cv/gate.. etc.
and is still the cheapest 303 clone
i'm not rich, so call me biased ;]

"plus more" means blocked midi in/thru/out in on x0xb0x?antto wrote:)
