Despite the lack of dynamics, lack of this or that, this person is having lots of fun using two of the most 'hated' drum machines, the TR8 and the Tempest. Some will no doubt comment negatively about the music, how it ignores some lofty EDM contemporary sound, but the main thing here is, this person is jamming and is making music, in their own way.

I think boring is probably only applicable for individuals who crave more than a straight forward, bang for your buck, drum machine with a few nicely thought out functions; effect per sound, per step.

I'm looking forward to getting my hands on some samples into Maschine and see if anyone notices the audible difference :hihi: but than that's my workflow of choice whereas the TR8 does not require a laptop/pc with software installed.
Heh... Nobody will notice the difference if you sample it... it is not like there are any filters or modulation which is hard to sample... other than pitch, which cannot be modulated since there are no envelopes or lfo's, the sounds are static.
Now here is a real drum machine...

Indeed. I have a large sub on my "pc speakers", such as they are, and had the volume turned up a bit, the intro to that shook the room. I can't say any of the tshacka-tshacka-tshacka-tshacka-tshacka-tshacka-tshacka-tshacka TR-8 videos have done that yet.

The more I read and hear about that machine, the more impressed I am. I really like the pads, but, anyone paying attention to drum machine development over the last decade should know that's the direction that things have been going. Even Dave Smith's Tempest, a design that I don't really like, has pressure and velocity sensitive pads so that you can program in subtle dynamics. See the Orbital video below for an example of their use in a live setting.

That video really highlights how these subtle details manifest themselves in the sound.

(Orbital video that was lost behind a full page of nonsense)

So is this little guy.

Excellent video. You are recognising the fact that music is universal and not dependent on some elitist EDM mumbo jambo nor on wanting a TR808/909 emulation to be an amalgamation of RYTM/MACHINE/SPARK/MAC/SAMPLED/PC.

This child feels the groove. Can you? or do you just analyse it?

Nope, speak for yourself, that's not what "I'm" recognizing at all.

and a video showing a very nice hardware set up, including the TR8, Virus, Nord Lead and lots of Elektron gear!

This is actually a very beautiful composition, again it's not riding on that elitist EDM wave, but rather, on a desire to make music, in one's own way. Kind of a freeing approach.

The TR8 seems to be playing a simple pattern, and some will argue that samples can do it too! (of course they can) But hey, this set up seems to be sampler-free!

Personally, I like how the repetitive TR8 pattern is then fused with the live drums! It's a cool approach, despite not being new (or even trying to be new - since in this thread, we have learned that we need to follow some cool EDM style in order to be relevant as musicians who use hardware drum machines).

So, people who make current EDM are elitist? Just wanting to clarify since you seem so sensitive to name calling and other, "airy fairy" things?
, but rather, on a desire to make music, in one's own way. Kind of a freeing approach.
So, now people that make this new "elitist" music don't base it on a desire to make music? I'm confused by what you're trying to convey here.

I know you are very upset about this. Fortunately, those people who have purchased the TR8 couldn't give a monkey's about what Roland is participating in.
Let Roland capitalise with these new instruments, have much success, so perhaps we will see more goodies from them.

EDIT. your editing of posts and deleting of your own text....seriously....

This is very good (you are welcome to criticise, of course!). I really like the video too.

Love the Push + TR8 combination. A nice downtempo jam that travels from 1990s to 2000. I love the fact that this person isn't bothered about following contemporary EDM fashions. Be free and make music as you want it. No EDM mambo jumbo.
