Hrm, Thomann's product page (EU) lists the 20th of November. Shame, though. That's just a week before the Electribe (synth version) seems to come out, so I will probably pass on the RW. It does look interesting, though, especially at the price. What's your first impression, if you had a chance to play with it a bit?

Not good by the sounds of it. Shame as I secured one at £120 new, very good of Red Submarine to honour a deal. Was looking forward to it.

Yes I got one (although it has now been wrapped up until xmas day)and I really like it. I don't think it is ever going to be the king of drum machines but for 150 quid it is a bargain.
The bass synth is not going to blow minds, but it is good it is there.
Build quality seems really solid although the dials are plastic, but for £150 it is all good.
The howl dial adds a distortion to the sounds, but it is noisy with the howl dial cranked up.
If you like those booming kick drums and crunchy analogue snares then this will deliver.

Cheers,
Steve

Quick Sound cloud Demo of some drum sounds and bass from the Wolf - Howl dial is cranked hence the noise.
Towards the end the howl dial is turned down so you can hear the drums without the howl distortion.
Not many controls to tweak the drum sounds with, but I could imagine the kicks and snares finding fans with Dance/Techno producers. IMO it was well worth the money.

Looks like there has been an update from Akai to fix the problem.

Hey all,

Thanks for posting.

The Rhythm Wolf Tuning Utility has been released!

The downloads are available on the Rhythm Wolf Product Page. Here are the direct links!

Rhythm Wolf Tuning Utility - Windows http://6be54c364949b623a3c0-4409a68c214 ... 7(WIN).zip

Rhythm Wolf Tuning Utility - Mac http://6be54c364949b623a3c0-4409a68c214 ... 7(MAC).zip

The utility will run through a firmware update first (only required once), then the tuning calibration. You'll need to connect the Rhythm Wolf to your computer via USB as well as connect the SYNTH OUT to your audio interface. The utility listens to the bass synth audio input as it's tuning.

Generally, when running firmware updates through USB, I recommend the following to prepare:

-Disconnect all other USB devices (mouse or keyboard is okay)
-Do not use a USB hub. Direct USB connection to the Rhythm Wolf
-If available, use USB 2.0 ports
-Disconnect 5-pin MIDI cables if connected to the Rhythm Wolf

The analog oscillator of the Rhythm Wolf can still vary over time and in different climates/conditions, so it is okay to use the tuning calibration of the utility more than once.

Enjoy!

It won't run on my Mac OS10.6.8. Bummer...

This not exactly a demo of what the machine can do, but I made a song with just a Korg MS20 Mini and a Akai Rhythm Wolf. Nothing advanced but still :)
