I liked the kick and snare in the SoundCloud example better. The hats and tom sound killer here, though, as good or better than most vintage Rolands.penguinfromdeep wrote:I don't know sounds bit toyish to me, like some mfb drum synth .. Though the synth part sounds quite nice

Yeah I noticed the hats sounded quite cool too actually
circuit modeling and 0-dfb filters are cool

Hats, hits, bass, filters and controls are very appealing.
Kick is too much of a cardboard box, but let's see what else is posisble...open minded! still.
Anyone know if controllers are CC sends/assignable :•)

Yes, the hats sound like they put some effort in, the kick not so much. And I agree with some other posters elsewhere that lamented the lack of clap.Uncle E wrote:I liked the kick and snare in the SoundCloud example better. The nice thing about this though is the form factor. There will be enough room in there for substantial mods.

The Volca Beats could be good as a companion to this. There's a lot I don't like about it but its kick and PCM sounds (including clap) are good.

Everything about that demo sounds flat and lacking in shape to me. I pretty much hated every sound apart from the hihats. Perhaps it's just the j00t00b compression?

I actually didn't like the synth bass part that much. The envelopes were strange and the resonance seemed to interact strangely. Apart from that and the snare, though, this has some serious potential.

Listened on headphones. I rather like the kick - has nice weight, keeps the pulse without dominating. Demo spends too long on the bass synth - That isn't what I thought this was about.

gonna have to hear it again on headphones or whatnot, laptop
speakers no use at all for hearing *any* analogue kick or tom.
otherwise big 'meh?' factor on that demo. weird how people
like hihats like that when the snare on the volca beats gets
dissed. just sounds like unmodulated white noise atm.
and the synth...meh/bof(french gallic shrug) on that too, soz..
i'm diggin' the volcas over here. the parameters are limited but
you can still do a helluva lot, and it sounds 'authentic'(if that is a
requisite)which is good enough for me after listening to too many
digi things and VA things and VST things. analogue is just so much nicer!
ah how could i turn my back on that-when i KNEW it!-for so long?
wrong thread, but i'd like to see more mods emerging for those. i've
just found a load of new MIDI sockets and closed mini monojacks in one
of my electrojunk boxes, so they're all getting MIDI out(+thru if i can)
very soon - can't decide where to put, though: MIDI out on back, and
any patch jacks on the top, no? if you could get a simple EG onto the
Tom pitch or any of the voices, it would go a lot further, those toms
can be a bit lame or overbearing. (er, please direct me to the volcamods
thread if it exists...) - ah yeah, and i dug out the Boss SYB3 bass synth
pedal yesterday and sent the volca bass through it - DIY Aira (not..)
speakers no use at all for hearing *any* analogue kick or tom.

Personally, I think the snare and synth sound good in that first SoundCloud demo. I agree that they don't sound good in the video.mztk wrote:gonna have to hear it again on headphones or whatnot, laptop

i've been waiting to hear this thing for a while, so will have
to hear more audio. as a sidenote, i've gone off the sound
of my x0xbox lately - so i'm kinda in the zone for modding
stuff anyway. what have the PCBs got on them? SMD?
i can't see volcas getting much in-depth modding, with the
limited space on the boards. at the pricepoint, this is part
of the appeal for all these products, i reckon..
i think there's a bit of a trend for more connoisseur analogue
sounds now, compared to obsession with generic 303 sound etc.
any info on sequencer operation? features?

You're right, the hats could prob be made on any synth capable of sending white noise through some filter maybe and an amp envelope. While that might not be complex, it does sound good however you make it, so, it's nice not to take up a whole moog or whatever just for that? And, doesn't have much to do with volca snare sounding like a borken turd.mztk wrote:weird how people

Gloria Estefan endorsement:
"O eh, o eh, o eh, oo aah
O eh, o eh, o eh, oo aah
Yah yeh goh
At night when you turn off all the lights
There's no place that you can hide
Oh no, Rhythm Wolf's gonna get'cha
In bed, throw the covers on your head
You pretend like you are dead
But I know it
The Rhythm Wolf's gonna get'cha
Rhythm Wolf's gonna get 'cha
Rhythm Wolf's gonna get 'cha
Rhythm Wolf's gonna get you
The Rhythm Wolf's gonna get you .........tonight"
Yes, the drugs do work.
