Steinberg Usb Elicenser driver not found

I'm trying to install Halion Sonic 2 on a computer without an internet connection and when I plug in the usb elicenser Windows Hardware Detection Wizard doesn't automatically install the driver for elicenser. I try to manually install it by clicking the troubleshoot icon and it says "The device driver for eLicenser is not installed. Install the latest driver for the device".

I have the latest elicensercontrolsetup.exe installed on the computer as well as the vsti halionsonic. I even tried running cmd as administrator to run the elicensercontrolsetup.exe in overwrite mode but unsure if I did it correctly. I tried following Number 3 instructions for when the light blinks on the usb but computer isn't recognizing it...

When running cmd as administrator the command line starts off as c:\windows\system32> so how am I supposed to redirect the installer to point to desktop if it starts in system 32 directory. I added the usual so the line looks like this:

C:Windows\system32> "C:Users\Sky Ambience\Desktop\eLicenserControlSetup.exe" /o

When I click enter it just goes back to c:\windows\system32> with a blinking cursor and no other messages like an error in the command line or that it worked succesfully. Also the line didn't trigger the installer on the desktop, I'm not sure if it was supposed to or if it would just point the usb to the installer after reboot and reconnection back to computer. Can anyone help with this?

Try the dongle on another pc. If WIndows sees it then its ok and you probably have a USB problem. If Windows dosnt see it on another pc then the dongle is faulty.

Sorry, forgot to add that part, the dongle works on two different pc's so I'm assuming it is a USB problem. Any ideas? Is there a way I can manually donwload the driver.. I looked up problem devices in system information and elicenser showed up with pnp device ID USB\VID_0819&PID_0101\.. when I searched google for the driver alot of spam sites showed up trying to make me like there fb page???

I have it running successfully on another computer, only problem is that computer is really buggy and unusable. My main computer for some reason won't install the dongle so its probably a usb issue? Any Ideas on how I could fix this, update the drivers, maybe its a microsoft .net framework issue? USB 3??

I'm using Windows 7 32 bit.. with only 2 gigs ram which is under the minimum required but plan to upgrade this shortly. Also about 10 ghz cpu.. Peace

Just noticed this, I just installed elicenser on computer with internet access, and the
halion sonic license shows up on this computer, however my other computer which just happens not to have internet, no licenses show up whatsoever, so Im assuming the computer isn't even reading the dongle, pretty sure it doesn't have to do with interent connection, just incidental, but any ideas what i can try to fix this ?

You realize the e-licenser "control panel" is actually a sort of C&R protection, right?

The keys can be remotely manipulated, revoked, etc.

It might be that it won't function at all without authorization from network. You'll have to get your answers from their support.

Also this is 100% a software issue, not related to hardware in any way at all by the way. At least not in terms of the hardware forum.

I'm pretty sure now too that the eLicenser software at least once needs connection to the internet to verify the licenses. Not sure though why the USB licenser doesn't get installed once the eLicenser software got installed. As far as i can remember, the driver is on the system when you install the eLicenser software. Or it is even in Windows/Windows Update.

I have already installed successfully on another system so the valid license should be one the usb and it is confirmed on two computers this is the case, just this specific system there are no license whatsoever so the system isnt even reading the physical usb even though the light is on, just installed the latest chipset drivers as well to no avail. Usb is 'hardware" so its best place to put it at start of thread, though no it might be a usb issue on mobo which is still hardware... If it isnt this then maybe simple driver recognition, at startup when you plug in any hardware, driver installation wizard starts and install s auto matically, if but perhaps fails in this case, which case it might be a driver issue which is still connected to hardware imo....

Hello,

You can run HALion Sonic in a computer without an internet connection even if you are planning to never connect it to the internet.
You only need to download and activate the license into your USB-eLicenser on another computer that is connected to the internet.

Then:
-Install the software on your non internet computer.
-Download the latest updates and patches and transfer them using an external HD or USB memory flash.
-The same applies for the eLicenser Control Center, please make sure that you have the latest version installed: http://www.elicenser.net/en/latest_downloads.html
-Last, connect the USB-eLicenser to the computer and open Cubase.

If the drivers for the USB-eLicenser are not installing properly, make sure to run the installer as administrator.

To run an application as administrator please follow this instructions:

- Right click on top of the application icon.
- From the contextual menu select properties
- Click on the compatibility tab
- Under te privilege menu select “Run this application as administrator”

Thanks for the reply, however I tried all of what you suggested long ago, I even tried to run the program elicenser install in overwrite mode because at this point I've narrowed it down to maybe the software wizard isnt installing the usb when plugged in so the computer isn't reading the usb dongle. Please read my earlier posts carefully because I already mentioned all the above and alot more of things Ive tried and the details surrounding this malfunction..

Not sure what windows version you are using, hwoever.

Removed the elicenser.

Uninstall all the software. If you like use a free utility like CCleaner to clear you registry and reboot.

Go to Settings>Control panel>System>Device Manager

Click on the view dropdown menu and select : show hidden devices.

Return to the device panel list and if elicenser is there uninstall it.
If it looks like a ghosted (see through) elicenser is there remove/delete it.

Again reboot do not plugin elicenser.

Now install the latest elicenser software :
Version: 6.7.1.8146
Size: 32.0 MB
Release: May 16th, 2014
When done plugin elicenser.

The above may or may not work.

Secondly, and a lot of people do not realise and overlook this. Make sure your elicenser is being plugged into a USB port that is not a hub, usb1, shared port or even a fauly port on your system. Guessing you have tried the other usb ports and a different usb stick in the usb port, just covering all bases.
