Alesis Photon25 - assigning a CC to pitch-bend

Hi guys

I just bought an old Alesis Photon25 MIDI controller. I had to do a firmware update in order to be able to use it under Windows 7 (64bit) but now it's working alright.
However, I got into another problem: in the manual it says "The X axis and Y axis (of the X/Y joystick) can be assigned independently" but I'm not able to assign anything to the X axis. It seems to be locked on pitch-bend. I can assign the Y axis to 2 CCs (from the center upward it can send one CC, and from the center downward it can send another CC).
So this is very annoying because the ability to assign different CCs to the X/Y joystick, instead of pitch-bend and modulation, was one of the main reasons I bought this controller.

Any thoughts?
