Just picked this up, it's great - the only problem I've had so far is it's susceptible to "wind" type low-frequency noise when you move it around, even if you're quite careful. A makeshift pop filter might help with that.
I recorded feeding time in my terrarium with it:

I live near the sea so we get some spectacular nature sounds around here. Can't wait to get some of those in full stereo. I'll share whatever I get with it, as I don't see a point in claming raw nature sounds as "mine"
But yeah, subtle little sounds like this are great for layering with beats to add texture.

That's neat. If the zoom H1 can so excellently record the sound of dining snails, it ought to be fabulous when pesky situations such as this arise--

I have a H1, I think it's a bit too noisy for my liking though. I haven't tried any others to test, so I'm not sure if I'm just being fussy
You're right about wind noise as well, if I use it outdoors I generally get a lot of that. Not sure if the H1 is more susceptible, or if that's just an innate problem of microphones outdoors
You can buy furry mufflers ('dead cat') that you can stick on the end to mitigate some of that, or improvise one

The soft open foam 'windscreens' these recorders ship with are just a little bit better than nothing.
A furry replacement or add-on can really make a huge difference.
If you go the DIY route, look for the longest 'hair' fabric you can get and that it won't stick together. If made tight enough, you can even use it as outer shell of said open foam and don't need the elastic band. (Enjoy the priceless looks as if you just hopped out of a flying saucer outside the shop when getting the fur)
..- or just get a dead kitten which is perfect at its game. I don't know if it'd fit a H1, it should fit on a H2 (n) and it definitely does on a H4n.
Also, try to use gloves and / or a tripod for less handling noise.
