Hey, that's great. Enjoy. The flash board is a great addition. Yamaha has several free downloads for use. Check it out here and click on the "Voice Libraries" tab: http://usa.yamaha.com/products/music-pr ... oxf/moxf6/

Some stuff to keep in mind. When you load soundbanks, it will overwrite the current banks. Be sure to do a full backup to a USB stick before you do anything. Also, you may want to update the synth to the latest firmware. Click the "Support" tab on the above link, and look for the Downloads link.

The flash board is slooooowwwwww. I think it takes around 40 minutes to load 512MB. Did you get 512MB or 1GB? You will need to get familiar with loading the flash. It can get a little tricky as there are certain rules to follow. Here is what I recommend. Load up a soundbank and then go through each voice it contains. Be sure to load using the options with waveform and sample. I mark each voice I like in a spreadsheet. Since I have 512 MB board, I then have to reformat the flash, another time consuming process. But otherwise, you run out of memory and can't load anything. Then I load the next file and again, mark the sounds I like. Once I have the sounds all marked, I reformat the flash. Then, I load each voice I liked, one a time, selecting the options with waveform and samples. I do this so my flash only uses up memory for the sounds I actually like. Since I use User Bank 1 for my own personal sounds, I use User Bank 2 for the Flash. Once I have everything loaded, you will want to save the data. Be sure to select the 'with sample' option.

I know this might all sound confusing right now, but many people run into issues where they overwrite their sounds, or don't save 'with sample' and they end up losing voices or having no sound. A good article on Motifator: http://www.motifator.com/index.php/supp ... lash_board

I received the MOXF last week and I have not done much except feeling my way around it.

I was expecting to be blown away by the sounds - but it's like hit or miss there for me. I was slightly disappointed with the piano sounds for example - for me they sound a bit lifeless and boring. But on the other hand many of the ethnic sounds including the flutes are totally magical.

All in all I am really satisfied and is a bit step up from my previous main ROMpler. The MOXF is easy to use - and for the sounds I'm not in love with, you can thankfully expand it.

I really look forward to hear how it will treat my own samples.

Great to hear it arrived. Yeah, I often read of users who really don't like the pianos giving the same lifeless/boring description. I personally use them all the time. You've tried the S6 in Factory Bank 9? I like that one over the piano sample in Factory Bank 1. There is also the CP1 downloadable library on the Yamaha site, which I find quite good. I also mainly use piano layered with pads. I like the performance Chilln Keys (turn off the arp), and Lake Side. Because it has built in USB/Audio, you can also easily hook up an iPad/laptop/computer and use softsynths.

If you want more ethnic instruments, I recommend downloading the "Inspiration In A Flash" library from the Yamaha site. Bank 3 is devoted to all world instruments.

Do you know about the Jon Melas software? http://www.jmelas.gr/motif/index.php One of the apps is a Waveform Editor (http://www.jmelas.gr/motif/wave.php) for creating samples. If you want to create loops and do sampling, you will need this application. If your samples are one shot (no looping), then I think you can import those directly off a USB thumb drive.

Hi iPlogger,
Next Wednesday I'll got my brand new MOXF6 .
I'm new in this kind of keyboard I have a D50 an I sell my old S90 to buy the MOXF.
Anyway this is my question.
I know that the MOXF come with famous motif sounds but don't have sampling section.
So is there any possibilities to recreate or better get the sound from vintage synth series ? I heard about possibility to have on the flash card samples in sound font form but I have no idea how and the modality to use this method. the only things I think that 1 GB flash card will be not enough if is able to save waveform on it.
Is there any third party flash rom with more than 1GB?
Sorry if I bomb you with so many questions but I'm so exited to put my hands on the moxf that I want to know more is possible on this argument before I get it.
Thanks in advance,
Brunix

I had a Motif XS Rack for two years... Great sounds. I somewhat miss the Grand Piano: it's not really authentic, but it inspires me to play.

Hi Brunix. Welcome to KVR. You probably already know, but if you had the S90, you will already be very familiar with most of the sounds on the MOXF. The MOXF also includes many new samples and a new Voice Bank using those samples.

You are right that the MOXF does not have built-in sampling. With a Flash Board and the Jon Melas Waveform Editor software, you can use your own samples as the basis for new sounds. I have definitely wanted to make some samples from some of my old synths, but I have not yet done any sampling myself. Here is a link to the Jon Melas Waveform Editor: http://www.jmelas.gr/motif/wave.php

Yamaha sells the 512MB and 1GB flash board. And Mutec makes a 512MB, a 1GB and a 2GB version (http://shop.motifator.com/index.php/mox ... flash.html). I have Yamaha's 512 MB.

I love Motif ES, especially because it can host PLG expansion cards. I wanted to replace it with XS but to me ES just sounds better/warmer and offers more synthesis options. I know sounds on newer Motifs are more detailed, more realistic, etc. but I already have sample libraries for more realistic sounds. ES expanded with PLG-AN and PLG-VL is a nice compromise between the amazing EX5 and the more bland-sounding Motif romplers.
