My drum machine just shit itself and I need a new one. Just wondering if the response of the MPD is same as MPK. They look the same.

I only briefly tried an akai advance (hated the action) but from memory the pads felt similar to my mpd218 (so presumably also similar to the mpd226) - wheras the pads on the old mpk much felt firmer (like the old mpd series). Some people reckon the new generation pads trigger too easily, personally I like them (cos I'm not prone to thumping pads crazy hard), comes down to taste
I'd try one before you buy to be sure...

Since MPD2 series the pads are upgraded. Newer devices will feel better than older.
