I bought an Integra a couple of years ago for a studio setting, thinking that it was a pretty sweet deal (not having owned any Roland modules before) as an all-in-one package.

I have a problem with the Integra's audio quality, in that at a higher decibel range, it produces a rather unpleasant... knocking sound? Like in every patch, I feel a throbbing pain that I don't hear present in any demos for other roland sounds. It doesn't seem to be a matter of EQing either, at least what I've played with the Integra always creates an annoying thumping sound.

Does anybody have any idea what I could tweak to turn this down? Take for example the file I attached, at louder levels it just kills the eardrums.

Take for example this:

what can I do to prevent that harsh, dull, painful sound?

Could it be a simple matter of turning down the volume knob on that thing?

In a real track you'd put a compressor & EQ on each track to tame down unpleasant things like that...

For a "bellish" type of sound you expect quite a bit of harsch components.
Mostly used for percussive kind of sounds - not sustained notes.

This sounds horrible, and possibly amplified by a poor limiter when pressing levels - as you described.

Been looking for Integra7or a FA06 in future, but never got to details what building blocks you have on each preset.
Hard to say if in amp ADSR thingy, or in output stage.

I would try a lower ADSR max gain level on sustain node. If a lot of resonance on filter ADSR I would lower that too. Usually some ring modulation involved in bell sounds - if to modify that a tiny bit.

I'm not sure I can hear anything harsh or painful in that example...?

Nothing wrong with the integra's sound quality , far from it ..it sounds excellent

You can go into system /sound and either
- adjust Master level
- Output gain .
Eyeball exchanging
Soul calibrating ..frequencies

Yep, I'm willing to bet you just need to adjust your levels. The same thing happened to me, I started to think there was something wrong with my Integra. Remember, each Part has its own volume level. Have a look at the signal flow in the manual so you can identify at what points the sound might be overdriving. Good luck, I hope you get it sorted out.
