I guess Nektarine is a wrapper? It seems a step backwards with regard to the Panorama P series.

Post

Well the after touch sensor on my P6 is failing after about 3 years (and out of warrenty) so I must admit I'm less disposed to look to Nektar for when I need a new controller. Also, and it might be just me but attempting to move two sliders or knobs controlling parameters in real time just confuses it.

Maybe this is cheaper version of Panorama, it resembles Impact quite a bit, got myself 61 one for 150, truly bang for the buck, guess this thing will go for cheap too.

I can see the advantage being uniform operation in every host rather than a bespoke solution for each compatible host (while it looks like it still has that too for DAW control).

oh look another controller with just 8 faders and 8 knobs, so much innovation.

Will give this a look if they've improved their keys.

The Arturia ones have 9 of each but the problem here is many hosts with macro controls like Ableton and Bitwig also conform to the 8 per user page layout, it's become something of a standard (although you can actually add a 9th in Bitwig, I've just not seen anyone using that much in macros). Personally I find around 8 per page OK as I'm used to this for Kore and it breaks any gui down into more easily memorisable chunks, too many controls are harder for me to embed in muscle memory.

Not much cheaper than P series, so my cheap theory is wrong.

Well the P4 and P6 are gone from the Nektar website and they're also advertising an improved keybed, so looks like these are replacements for the P series.

Wow, either I'm completely blind or their website was different when I last saw it :D Still, looks like they might be kinda replacing the P series with the improved keybed & all.

With the P series, deep integration is imho best implemented with Reason and Cubase. It doesn't seem like the entire list of premapped vst plugins that work with cubase also work with the other daws that support this functionality, like reaper or bitwig. Some do work but not all. You can create your own mappings but cannot name the pages and also the number of pages is limited. Bitwig can do it on its own but that's not the same thing. So nektarine actually seems like a good thing that addresses this limitation of the P series, provided it's not intrusive or unstable like automap. Would love to see something similar for the P series.

I was considering a T4 but have been offered a P6 for £80 from a friend. The problem I have with P6 is there are quite a few of my VST plugins aren’t listed on their website. Would the T4 with Nektarine be better for me? The P6 is also a bit large for my limited studio space. Which should I go for?

Well, my bad, again, P series prices are reduced now, so yeah, T series is cheaper than P initially, so my theory stands. :D
