Just Starting Out

I am an absolute newbie to electronic components and their equivalent models in the digital environment.

I'm not afraid of science or maths; and understand generators, amplification, filters and frequency from synths and actual effects.

What I'm after is a book(s) or sites that would guide me into understanding the electronic components that would say make an 808 screamer or EH Small Stone work and how I might emulate it in a plug-in using Sonicbirth using digital modules.

Any suggestions would be appreciated
