Session Program change

Quick Question:
It seems I'm having some issue changeing a session via program change (contabile solo).
I send a program change on channel 1, but the session doesn't change. It only works if I assign the program change to a global event to load a specific session.
I haven't seen any other options. Since I can assign program change numbers to a session, shouldn't it just work out of the box?

Try using the setlist.
Assign "SetList - Load specific song" to program changes in Setlist Midi assignments.
The setlist needs to know the port and channel where to listen for program changes. There are other levels of using program changes too...
What other solution "out of the box" do you think of?

Thanks TIUser... I knew that i can assign specific songs to a program change event (via the midi assignments). That way i have to do it for each session though. I thought there may be an easier way since you can assign program numbers to each session.

Hi larsalt,
I'm not quite sure but could it be the "Set List Load Song" Assignment you need? Load specific Song means you have to map each song to the instruction you want by hand.
Should it be that the "Set List Load Song" Assignment doesn't work for you the reason could probably be your MIDI Contoller if it is sending program changes in another format (Banks, program changes). I had this issue and TiUser had the hint to use MIDI filters (Suppress event) on the input to suppress CC 0 and 32 (as far as I remember ). So the pure PC instruction is left and can be interpreted by the Setlist.
Good luck, humphrey

I am a bit confused about where you "assign" program numbers to sessions. I don't know where to assign a program number inside a session... I only know to assign program numbers to setlist entries. A setlist entry can not be just a session but (in Cantabile Performer) also select a particular subsession within a session file.larsalt wrote:... That way i have to do it for each session though. If you work with Performer (which you do not - but anyways) you can select subsession within a single session by program changes - without using the setlist.
On top vst's can use program changes too - the old midi way.
To make it "simpler" would mean implying and preferring any scenario - but I guess everyone would prefer another one...
Maybe I still misunderstand your problem so.
@humphrey: I honestly can't remember the thing with the filter - but it's true that the setlist does just respond to program change and not to bank changes.

I added a question, it's not clear to me.
Does anybody know how to do it right (step by step?)
