Hi all,

here is my jazz new tune. It's a pure jazz one, ascetic avant-garde jazz.

Sax (soundfont), ePiano (mda VST), UpBass (soundfont), drums and percs (one shot samples), guitar (one note sample pitched at different notes). Digging deeper in an accoustic jazz music.

Done yesterday evening.

John C is going to spain

All done with Buzz freeware.

It's called Cold Train.
Check it here :

Thanks to read!!

Hope you'll enjoy.

Very cool track magma. I liked everything about this track. Lovely jazzy vibe and the percussion was perfect. You do this style so well. Maybe it was a bit dry sounding in places and could have done with a bit more reverb, but that's nitpicking. Loved it. :D

This is good. I can't be picky, this is very nice.

edit: What exactly is a sond font?

Thanks a lot you two

Zewtron, check this place to find what is exactly a soundfont.

Wow! Thanks all :P

topaz : the soundfonts are :

UpBass : AbasYamaha
Sax : ClavinovaSopranoSax

Both are free, anyway I always work with free material.

BTW, what do you mean by "take it up or down the minor 3rd my man" ? As I have no musical knoweldge and dont play instruments, I like to learn and what you said may inspires me :hihi: Do you mean on the ePiano chords ?

duncanparsons & Markleford, I have to check these Andy Shepard and Bruford/Earthworks music. Thanks for the comparison anyway, even if I dont know them :hihi:

I have another tune in the same genre, if you're interested. It has a more "hispano" touch and like Cold Train, it's not finished but well, it is listenable (sorry for my english).
It is called Spanish Blues and it's here :

http://buzzmusic.wipe-records.org/index ... ongid=4888

this time I used the "UpRightBass" soundfont and the "NyLoNgUiTaR21" soundfont. The guitar could sound a bit better but as I wanted to share the song with other buzzers, I used a light soundfont to keep the file small (the soundfont is 640 kb).

Once again I used the mda ePiano and mda Piano and one shot samples for percs and drums.

Thanks again for the great feedback.

Cheers :D

Really good piece. As I said over in the auditorium, you have a good feel for jazz. You prove that its possible to get good results from the creative use of freeware.

Topaz has a good suggestion here. Your piece pretty much stays in the same key all the way through. I think what topaz is suggesting is introduce a key change occasionally, by going up 1 1/2 steps (=minor third) to another chord. For instance, if your piece is basically in the key of C (not sure what key its actually in), then every so often (every 8 or 16 bars or so) shift up to an E-flat chord for a few bars (maybe E-flat major 7th to keep the jazz sound consistent).

:-o  :o
No musical knowledge, and you're turning out this quality stuff?

Keep postin' magmavander - I like your style.

not so much a key change but at least to move to another chord or root note in the songs key.

it's funny how so many people think by moving to a new chord means "key change" not that you do but I see this so much in electronic made music.

I basically mean it pedals like so many others over 1 root all the way.

Yeah, poor wording on my part :dog: I think we're talking about the same thing.

Very good stuff indeed! If you don't have any musical knowledge, then you must have one heck of an ear man!

:o Thanks a lot :-o

Bonjour SWTrex ;) Sorry, I forgot to answer at the Auditorium.
Great links that you gave me.
And a GREAT song too!

Topaz : ok I see what you mean. At the begin, the idea was to try to work on the "feel" of a "train". That's why in a way it has this repetitive beat, like when you're in a train.
But of course, a change must happen (sometimes the train stops in a station he he he).

I suppose that those of you who know him have recognized the great saxophonist for who I wrote this tribute. The name is in the title. Cheap joke I know

Unfortunately I haven't learn music. I have made graphic studies but maybe it was the wrong way. No I'm joking, I like always graphic stuff of course. But Music is far more easier for me to create (I work in many other genre).

freeztar & Markleford : merci les amis ;)

2 All of you, I will check your music soon this week

Have a nice day!
