well you can do it for yourself and sing it to friends and stuff but I wouldn't try to sell it

you should check whether the works are still copyrighted. most stuff older than 65 years is no longer copyrighted, but not all. if the copyright has expired, you can do what you want with the poems. if not, you must get permission from the poet (if alive) or estate. if they respect what you are doing they'll probably grant it, sometimes for a fee (usually not too large).
