----------------------------------
Staring at the Stars is a passionate, moody collision between shoegazer alt-rock and synth-laden electro-pop, reminiscent of both Radiohead and The Cure. Ron Cavagnaro sings sincerely about life, love, and spirit from his home in Rochester, New York.

"Music Box" spent five months in the all-time top ten charts on Knobtweakers.net (January - May, 2005), among more established artists like Bjork, Tweaker (NIN's Chris Vrenna), and His Name is Alive.

Nice job, Ron. =)

Knobtweakers is the world's leading electronic music MP3 blog. Some of our popular features have attracted over 60,000 downloads, each. Our netlabel section is very new, but we have exciting plans for it, including a Knobtweakers listening party coinciding with the next Sundance Film Festival (January, 2007). Feel free to read about our other Knobtweakers events (http://www.knobtweakers.net/events/).

If you're interested in getting featured on Knobtweakers, please read Getting Featured on Knobtweakers (http://www.knobtweakers.net/2005/06/getting-featured-on-knobtweakers.html).

You can also contact Knobtweakers on MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/knobtweakers).

For those who missed my other recommendation, Ron's stuff is top notch. I demonstrate my aggravation for Ron in the RMS forum from time to time, but I'll never say he's not a top-notch songwriter and musician.

If you haven't heard his stuff yet, do yourselves a favour and check it out. I can only recommend "The Ocean Is Deep" and "Music Box" (my fave KvR track evar), but the others are likely to be good, too.

Press release:

The Consolation Project Releases Debut MP3 EP

Ron Cavagnaro, AKA, The Consolation Project, has released his five-track debut MP3 EP, Staring at the Stars, on the Knobtweakers Netlabel. The album marks his first foray into the netlabel community. Staring at the Stars is a passionate, moody collision between shoegazer alt-rock and synth-laden electro-pop, reminiscent of both Radiohead and The Cure. Cavagnaro sings sincerely about life, love, and spirit from his home in Rochester, New York.

Netlabels distribute MP3 music free of charge. They have recently become a popular alternative to traditional record labels and self publishing. Netlabels have a built-in audience for artists to tap into, and they typically offer much more flexible licensing than traditional labels. "I chose to release this for free because I wanted to share my music with as many people as possible," says Cavagnaro.

Under the Creative Commons Music Sharing License, TCP fans will be able to share the music over peer to peer networks without fear of a lawsuit. The license explicitly allows for filesharing. Cavagnaro plans to earn money from merchandise sales, live shows, and commercial license deals, which traditionally supply the bulk of a band's revenues, anyway.

"I think it would be a great opportunity to have my music appear in a commercial film," he says. Tracks like "Ocean is Deep" feel cinematic, evoking strong images and emotion. The Knobtweakers Netlabel is based in Salt Lake City Utah, which plays host to many of the annual Sundance Film Festival activities. Knobtweakers has plans to release an EP from Taxi Doll, an electro rock outfit which has already appeared in Hollywood productions such as "Shall We Dance," starring Jennifer Lopez, and "Firewall," starring Harrison Ford.

According to Knobtweakers founder, Eric Hamilton, "film presents an exciting opportunity for musicians, initially as a source of exposure, and potentially a strong source of revenue once the band achieves the right level of name recognition. One of the most important goals of Knobtweakers is to help the artists earn a living doing what they do best."

Cavagnaro is excited about the opportunities that come with his partnership with Knobtweakers. "I'm very excited to get this kind of exposure. I think this way I would be more connected to my fanbase as opposed to unreachable." Cavagnaro manages his own artist page on MySpace, enabling his fans to contact him directly, and the Knobtweakers website is a blog that allows users to comment on releases. "It seems [distribution via Knobtweakers] could create more opportunities for networking and communication."

Kind of retro 80's thing going on here isn't there ron?
Definately hint of the cure (radiohead? - maybe a little).
Seems well produced on an initial listen.
Nothing - very cure-ish, not to my taste really, but I still kinda like it :D
Ocean is deep - reminds me of some early smashing pumpkins.
Face myself - that cure thing going again, like that tinkly guitar riff, really retro, kinda nostalgic for me.
Reaching - like that old school sounding drumming production, this puts me more in mind of radiohead (maybe it's the synth lines in the background) - there's something i'm not sure of about this one though, could be just me.
Music Box - nice.
To be honest i'll have to lsiten to them again an another day - i've been blasting drum n Bass all day whilst doing the housework, so there's kind of a culture shock acclimatisation thing going on.
Good work, im impressed & also surprised (in the best way).
