Not a cover, but an original in the "mode". Think old folks home elevator music.

Neil Diamond wrote it. HIM tried to make it current. I'm trying to send it back to the elevator.

To truly capture the atmosphere of my local supermarket I would need pan pipes, more strings, chimes, bells and harps. However, with the help of an oboe soundfont, the plugsound spanish guitar and generous amounts of Ambience reverb (2 for the price of 1), I think I got halfway there. And that's about as close as it's advisable to get.
Fluff Will Tear Us Apart
Squidfont orchestral, Sebastian's oboe, USB plugsound free, Magnus Ambience.

Sigh. Fresh from my classic 'zero' score last month, and set fair for another, I present a restful little cover, quite an adventurous social comment around the middle of the last century...now suitable for greyhaired old moonbats in birkies to la-la along with in the 'organic' section...
Farm Fresh Produce
Production is a skill I have barely addressed, let alone acquired. The fine products misused here include:
Wusikstation 2.2
FM7 Express
Manyguitar
and VOX'd
Knocked out on ACID Pro 6, all MIDI, no loops.
/funxi

G'day all,
I wasn't going to submit something this month, but then I had an idea...
http://www.simonwatson.com.au/songs/06_ ... rmusak.mp3
Some things to note:
The tune playing on all three floors of the virtual shopping centre is Lie To You, my submission for last month.
All voices are me except the elevator's voiceover - that's the missus.
Found some free sound effects for the elevator, walking etc.
I recorded my air conditioner for added ambience.
Oh, and that's the first tune I've EVER used my glockenspiel on!
The tune itself is obvious, right...?

In the 1960s, Fleetwood Mac founding guitarist Peter Green, after experiencing an acid-fueled nightmare in which he was chased through a desolate forest by a demon, wrote about his dream - and came up with one of the most haunting and spooky rock songs ever recorded.
In the 1970s, pioneering heavy metal band Judas Priest would cover Green's tune, maintaining its spookiness quotient, but adding an arrangement which sounded like stormtroopers busting down your door and kicking your head.
In the 1990s, alternative legends The Melvins would do their own version of the tune, slowing it down again but adding tons of fuzz-fueled mayhem, making it sound even spookier.
And in 2006, a clueless underling for a muzak house, under orders to make an uptempo synth arrangement of a Fleetwood Mac tune for shoppers to listen to while buying trendy clothes with other people's names on them at Old Navy, accidentally bought the wrong Greatest Hits album - and, coincidentally, also bought the latest issue of Computer Music with their tutorial How to sound like....KYLIE!!!!!
The result was too hideous to behold.....
How Green Was My Manalishi
stuff used:
host: Cubase SE on Powermac G4 MDD
drums: Groove Agent 2
bass: Sampletank 2, massaged with OhmBoys OHMYGOD!
chintzy synth pads: SampleTank 2, FM7
synthy vocal lines - Halion Player
controllers: Peavey Falcon/Roland GM70, Yamaha DX7s

I'm not sure this is 100% Muzak... ...anyway it's my best try.
Here it is : I guess that's why they call it muzak
Cheers
...and good muzak to everyone...
