Hello,

I've been on KVR for a little while now, although I'm more of a lurker than a poster.

Anyway, maybe like a lot of you, you write a lot of songs and then dont do anything with them... well, I got tired of the buildup of songs filling up my hard drives, so I decided to record one song a night for the rest of the month.

I've been doing this for a few days and it's been difficult but fun. However, I would really love to have some feedback on the songs from some musicians, since mostly all the people listening are friends and family (who have been really nice!). I'm especially interested in hearing about how I could improve my recording techniques, but anything and everything is totally welcome.

Here's the link, and thanks a million!

hey today's song "a world of good" is excellent. beautiful feel between the slightly merry-go-round piano and expressive voice. 8) intriguing lyrics, a wonderful piece.

i was just about to go out when i decided to listen, couldn't resist the title "27 rough giraffes". i'll listen to some more later, but i just had to comment on this one. i'm poorly qualified to advise on recording techniques, it sounds great to me, a performance.

are you familiar with FAWM? what you're doing with a song a day is similar.

glad i caught this :)

will come back later

Thanks man! All comments are appreciated, even if they're the hard to swallow constructive kind!

I'll check out that FAWM site...

That FAWM project is cool, anyone know any other similar sites?

I DL'ed Day 1, and quickly proceeded to DL the rest and signed up for the e-mail listing for remaining songs.

This site is similar - join in the Music Cafe song contest each month.

Please take this comparison positively. I generally don't like most Bruce Springsteen songs, but there are some that grab me - make me sit down; think about the words and remember the time in my life that the song seems to resonate with.

day 1, Arrive did that for me.

Looking forward to more. Thanks for the blessing for today.

I wrote a lenghty message yesterday, but KVR crashed on me :-(

I was very impressed with your songs, and astonished about your productivity!

I got until "Valerian", which along with "White Stars, Black Sky" was my favourite. Interesting, dramatic compositions with matching production. I'll be glad to listen to the rest and comment later.

RE: technical things, is "New York to California" recorded with a stereo mic? I'd like your voice to be panned center. The guitar might also have a bit too much room/reverb. Otherwise it's also a great song, and could well deserve a retake.

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Jon, all acoustic and vocal stuff is recorded on two small diaphragm condensor mics. I think one of the main things that is coming out of this project for me is that some people can mix and master, and others either cant, or need to devote a lot more time!

Someone else said the same thing about the vox being off-center, so I think you're on to something...

I appreciate your comments, very helpful!

awesome thread title, heard 4 of these now, "white stars, black sky" being my favourite, manages to be incredibly emotive despite its relative simplicity. would right a more indepth piece on them but its just too hot to do much but listen.

i'll be checkin out the rest over the next couple of weeks i guess, i'll probably do a better write up of my favourites at some point.

great work and a fantastic work rate

Nope, I live on the hu-hu-huuuge hu-hu-hungarian prairie or savannah, but unfortunately I didn't meet with giraffes on there till now. The source of the photo is www.sxc.hu (it's english), a good free stock photo site with a nice and big community.

I like Heyday from the first listen!

Keep up the creative and productive artistic work! And thanks again!

Cheers,
Lance
