i recently did my first mashup ... it's called "Hurts Like Teen Spirit" and much to my amusement, it has been included in the playlist at mashuptown

check it out before they get closed down :hihi:

bump ...

there are some really fun tracks on this site ...
i can't help jumping around to most of 'em ... :hyper:

Post

so has anyone got an opinion on the mashup scene? Do you like 'em , hate 'em, hate me for asking .. and for making them, or maybe want to know how to do it?
I went to a party a couple of weeks back, where the DJ played pretty nothing else all night. Everyone was really into it , young and older ... there's kinda something for everyone in these mixes ... and some of 'em are downright genius IMHO ...
Rapture Riders by Go-Home Productions really stands out ... "floorfiller" as they say

then there are the copyright and legal issues ... i'd be interested to read what people here think

a couple of mates of mine do soemthing similar.
$ to the floor bassline garage bootlegs.
Vocals are ripped & they 'borrow' a lot of melodies etc. from old funk & soul records (they're both dj's with large collections).
That kind os style is big with kids around here - the whole niche thing.
Similar?

Post

yeah pretty similar ... the general idea is to mix 2 tracks ... vox from one and music from another ... mine's not a 4 to the floor tho' ... it's quite rock'n'roll

Cool site, downloading now.

...

 Thats mint! So how do you go about doing this? Just keep looking till you find something with similar bpm and key? Or just use one beat from a song and then find say an acoustic song to layer on top?

Great stuff. It could however do with a bit more....hmmm....? ;)

it's really just a matter of experimenting ... and finding stuff in the same key, or near enough to pitch without messing up the sound too much. It's a lot like DJing ... the right tunes kinda suggest themselves ...
i've been using Live5 to timestretch and beatmatch the tracks ... once you've got them in there it's easy to try different tempos, until to get the right feel ...
it's pretty CPU intensive stuff, so once i find the sections that work, i render them out as loops ... and then sequence it just like a regular track, using the loops.
