i tried converting this to mp3, but it sounded horrible. but shamann succeeded (see below).

Down to less than 2MB now, too. Used lame with these settings:

lame -m s -h --vbr-new -V 2

Fun track. Interesting rhythm you've taken with this one.

your mp3 sounds excellent! well done. so do you use lame without a shell, just enter commands?

Yes, I'm using a command line version of lame, although which one I'm not entirely sure, probably got it from here. I used to use Sound Forge's batch converter, which wasn't bad, but the difference in quality with lame on some material is astounding. I've gone with the command line version since a lot of shells make it hard to use switches effectively. I've had good luck with the WinLame GUI shell in the past, though.

When I did the above conversion, I turned up the volume to see if I could hear any noticeable problems. Holy mother, that's one hell of a bass rumble in there, around about the :40 mark.

That bass at :40 and 1:50 is to die for. I'm going for some breakfast across the street now.
