Alrighty folks,
Just finished composing and designing sounds for a "remix" of a track I wrote for my old lady's last birthday. I'm moving on to the Mixing stage next, but I'm looking for comments/opinions/criticisms on the sound selection/song structure, etc...
So, be careful with your ears, because this is really just a bunch of tracks slapped togther, no real mixing done, no compression, no eq, no effects that weren't built into the synths I used...very raw at the moment. It'll get better once It's properly mixed, and I'll update the post when I get to that stage. Anyway, Download Here
Thanks to anyone who bothers with this piece of crap!
Peace

After a quick listen i would say on the composing point of view you may avoid the "drum machine" feel of the drum parts as much as possible
That except i appreciate very much the overall atmospherical, slowly circling aspect ( it reminds me a bit of "crazy" from seal, maybe you could synchronise the LFO if it's not already the case ) and the way it contrast with the rythmical elements without blurring the orchestration excessively
Though you say it's crappy...( what a crazy idea !!! )...looks promising.

Thanks Krakatau!Krakatau wrote:After a quick listen i would say on the composing point of view you may avoid the "drum machine" feel of the drum parts as much as possible

Hmmmm.....Well, there are alot of drums in there...I really like the drums in the track from the Reflex vsti...the ones that come in at the beginning of the track...but I'm weighing taking out the other drum kit...the more I listen to it, it just doesn't fit in very well. Will have to work on replacing that with something less "machine"-ish.
Thanks for listening!
Peace

didn t say nothing about the drums sounds at all, just that their programming needs to sound much more natural
So it would reach the level of quality of the overall orchestration
Good luck !

She does sometimes, but only when I force her to...so I'm relatively safe.danielmm wrote:Hope "the old lady" doesn't read your threads!Just finished composing and designing sounds for a "remix" of a track I wrote for my old lady's last birthday. Thanks to anyone who bothers with this piece of crap!

I grabbed this quite a while back and, aside from the un-mastered mix which strikes me as too sterile, I like it quite a bit

Wow, now that's service!
Location: The Cosmic Giggle? That's terrific, when did you do that?
Totc, you're too hard on yourself. This is bitchin' and I'm mystified as to why you leave it unfinished and you claim to not finish so much
It sounds like you have about 20k $ of software going on in this song, just toss some random multiband compression and tube warmth over it and call it done! If this is your flippan mix of getting frustrated and just tossing bits together then you needn't bother trying harder as it would break other people's will to make music if you managed whatever you have planned in your overly-perfectionist schemes

Well, my old hometown of Elizabeth, the Toxic Giggle, is not that far away. So I figure the Cosmic one can't be too far away either.runagate wrote:Wow, now that's service!

well, it just hasn't been mixed at all, as I haven't had much time to dedicate to it...wanted to get some opinions since the composing and sound design was finished. I'd like to work on the drums a bit, and switch out some of the sounds. Plus, it needs some automation what not to make the sounds less static. That's all I really mean by unfinished. I just tend to compose them, slap them together to hear what I need to do with it during the production stage, and leave them there.
Well then, I might have to leave it unfinished. Wouldn't want to discourage anyone.runagate wrote:It sounds like you have about 20k $ of software going on in this song, just toss some random multiband compression and tube warmth over it and call it done! Actually, there isn't that much moneys worth of software in here at all. The current line up in the track is:
1. Wusikstation (several instances and custom patches)
2. GrooveCube's Exciton (for the bass...custom patch)
3. ManyGuitar (The lead)
4. Linplug's Albino (using some presets from the 2.0 Pro-Sounds set)
5. Basement Arts' Reflex (All Drums)
6. MiniMonsta (the sound effect in the build up at the beginning)
That's it so far. Actually, with the exception of the Exciton preset, all of the presets I used are available in one way or another. I'll list them out, and mention where each one came from when the tracks 100% finished and posted on the ToTc site.
Thanx again guys!
Peace
