Hi guys,

I've just uploaded a track I did in May - not sure whether to be proud of it, but I'd love to get some feedback.

http://rapidshare.com/files/73197274/17 ... 02_cut.mp3

Please note that the file is about 11mb in size - just thought I'd warn those on dial-up.
I hope rapidshare is okay with you, advice on hosting welcome, too. :)

The original was about four times longer, but I edited it down to what it is now. Not sure how the 'mix' will sound on others' systems, feedback on that is of course appreciated, too.

cheers,
fabian

edit: added a box.net mirror if rapidshare treats you unkindly. ;)

Wow Nice Trip... I like how you did these sounds, the decay on this is really cool :tu:, and the panning is down right insane... very cool thanks...

Thanks. I forgot to say that everything was created in real-time, except the editing, of course. :)

Gotta run, am already late - really appreciate you taking the time.

Holy crap

My poor Yamahas, they're taking a sterofastic pasting! :D

Interesting.

I thought I had mentioned how much I liked this... obviously not. It's taken a while but I really dig this kind of music now. I really enjoy this track because of the movement as well as the fascinating sounds. Most of the tracks I've heard in this style evolve pretty slowly but this has some energy to it that keeps me intrigued.

Thanks.

thanks, mike and justin. :)

I think with this track, too, I forgot to mention that it was basically recorded live except for the cuts I did to make it more concise.

I have largely abandoned the idea of creating the 'perfect' default file from which to start all tracks. I used to sit for hours over ideas on how to use my midi controllers to their full advantage and didn't get anything done at all.

Now when I record my improvisations the major problem that's left is deciding what to ditch and what to keep. Gets really confusing when you record everything to figure out what sucks and what doesn't.

hm, did you click on the correct button? following the link you should get to a page where it says 'premium' and 'free' towards the bottom. click on 'free' - then wait for 1 minute to download for free.

if it doesn't work please report back and i'll upload the track to my box account in a slighty lower (or variable) bitrate.

thanks for trying, though! :D

For anyone having trouble with Rapidshare, I don't might hosting a mirror:

Also the other recent fabi track:

I still haven't had a chance to listen to these. Will hopefully do so later this evening.

that's very kind, thank you. :)
i gotta run right now, but maybe i'll do a box mirror later today.

and don't worry about not having had a chance to listen - maybe if you had you wouldn't have mirrored them. :hihi: ;)

I've had a chance to listen now. I like this, sort of. I really like the initial atmosphere, pleasant noise seems an apt description of it, like warm bath water. But I find the little pe-ow sounds and rhythmic breaks don't really add to the experience of the soft, lilting ambience that you start with. Personally, I'd rather hear changes in the noise/drone, rather than contrasting breaks and pops. They remind me to some degree of fits of attention deficit.

But the effect you get right out of the gate, this enveloping sound, that's really excellent.

Thanks for the detailed review - it contains some of the doubts I have had about the piece.

I'll listen to the track with your comments in mind and try to hear how much of that I can see. I think it's very difficult to be 'composer' and editor at the same time - very hard put myself into the listener's position and look at the track on its own rather than as something I created.

It's invaluable feedback, thanks so much.

Take it with a grain of salt, though, it's laden with my bias.
