i sometimes improvise sparsely over slow, ambient loops. it occurred to me that i might turn these improvisations into something resembling songs, but i don't really listen to much ambient music and don't have any ideas what else to add to make them sound like more than just me improvising over a loop, so if anyone wants to add something to this, i'd be grateful. i'd prefer to keep it pretty sparse and quiet and not necessarily build to any kind of climax or anything. and i have in mind some acoustic instruments with lots of delay and reverb, but anything would be appreciated.

anyway, here's the file: http://sound.jp/jeff/s/jeffambient1.mp3

the tempo is 128. the tonic is f (f minor, i guess, but feel free to play with that). if anyone wants to add a similar but better bass part, i can put up a part with no bass, too.

It's cool to hear horn work.. It's a rarity.

Enjoyed it as is. What else would you want to hear in it?

well... it's difficult for me to think of something like this as more than just me playing along with an unchanging loop. but i don't know, maybe i just need to readjust my thinking and admit to myself that it's okay to consider this a song. i just had in mind something like jon hassell does these days: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCWnZ0qILUA

I pretty much agree with what the others are saying here. Nice lazy ambient track.

The only suggestions I would make would be for you to up the level on the horn a bit, and maybe record a second track so you have two instruments bouncing off each other so to speak.

That would of course be more of your work :hihi:
It wasn't me! (well, actually, it probably was) - apparently now an 'elderly' so maybe I forgot!

yeah, when i listened to it again, the horn seems a little quiet.

Hi

I have done some experiments on your piece. Tell me what you think.

Here it is: http://thokay.com/

It is quite remarkable how much difference another person's ideas can make to a tune. This now has a distinctly sinister atmosphere.
