Nice collection of entries this month.

1 Aziraphal Troll Academy
- march with excellent tension and a funny end

2 Zombie Queen Bootlegger's March
- good adventurously crafted, though not deeply a march

3 David Stiles March of the Desert Bloom
- fits the march idiom most, well narrated

4 Laguna Rising Leftovers March
- funny and cheerful march, was a joy to listen to

5 bzur March Of The Dark Queen
- professional dark march with lots of carving details from a scene down deep under the earth eventually

6 Hellfog Hellfog Every life
- Disco-March? Why not. Though the startmelody came very cheesy the tune wins when the narrator appears

7 offthewall HillsOfAberdeen
- nice song, the drums are well integrated

8 Clarago 1403 ClaRago Funeral March
- wild and weird funeral party, it grows after listening more often

9 Klawire Bittersweet
- well developed movie-theme

10 Darko Angeleski Goblin's March
- like the industrial creepy drums

Quite a varied range of entries in spite of a seemingly narrow theme, and enough contributors to make voting, um, interesting :)

01 Aziraphal - Troll Academy
Marvelous atmosphere and development.

02 bzur - March Of The Dark Queen
Ominous right from the start. Love the dramatic shouts.

03 rylo - the dead march
Get's that tingly feeling straight away.

04 pethu - To a Different Drum
Starts with a traditional drum beat then morphs nicely into something quite different.

05 Zombie Queen - Bootlegger's March
Very brave relying almost entirely on the bass. Good job it worked.

06 Shangsean - The Robots Are Coming
I was hopiong for a robots theme. You didn't disappoint!

07 thomekk - March of the dropoffs
I get the feel of a toystory environment... very strongly.

08 Darko A - Goblin's March
I never got to hear the version we're suppsed to un-remember, but this is good.

09 Laguna Rising - Leftovers March
This is rather fun. That's all!

10 Mister Natural - The Saints
Enjoyably bizzare.

The rest still deserving a mention.

davidstiles - March of the Desert Bloom
Novel idea for a march and nicely put together although it doesn't quite fit the title for me. Comes over more as a hick town parade.

offthewall - HillsOfAberdeen
Traditional Celtic theme. Well put together.

klawire - Bittersweet
Very well produced and enjoyable, but I don't get any sense of a march at all.

beanpole - Marching Along
Starts with a cliche, then turns into a sort of campfire song.

Hellfog - Every Life
Some strange sound combinations, especially after the spoken bit.

key88 - MatchOfTheWhat
What? Curious.

ClaRago - Funeral March
Very strange intro. Then it gets even more peculiar!

Kryptonaut - Sacrifice to the Sun God
Definitely not of this world.
It wasn't me! (well, actually, it probably was) - apparently now an 'elderly' so maybe I forgot!

...and here are the votes from a Swedish jury of 1:

01 Aziraphal - Troll Academy
Can't fault this, excellent from concept through execution to mix. The End.

02 David Stiles - March of the Desert Bloom
There's much here that appeals to the anglophile in me: It reminds me very much of the great British promenade orchestras in the Empire days of long ago -- which for my part means quite a lot of Ketèlbey, and some strong hints of Elgar in light-hearted and exotic march mode. God save the queen.

03 Laguna Rising - Leftovers March
I love music that doesn't take itself too seriously, and this is downright whimsical. Which isn't a word I often use, but all the more reason to elevate a piece that gives me the opportunity! Full of musical inventiveness.

04 Darko Angeleski - Goblin's March
I actually like this non-vocal version better than the original one. It doesn't hurt a bit that it is a bit more "abstract" this way. I love the "footstep" crunches, it's enough to make me see goblins!

05 Shangsean - The Robots Are Coming
The chaotic and rough (in a good sense) nature of this saves it from sounding too much as coming straight out of a video game. Because it's certainly bombastic enough! A bit more towards the orchestral and a bit less "laser-fight" as it progressed, and I would have been perfectly happy. But that's just me.

06 kryptonaut - Sacrifice to the Sun God
I love Vangelis' "Mask", so pretty natural I enjoy this I guess. Strange how high-tech and neo-primitive can be such a great match! A couple of loud organ parts in the mix throws the thing off kilter in places, at least in my speakers... Otherwise, fine.

07 thomekk - March of the Drop Offs
Solid weirdness. I don't know if I really LIKE it as such, but it's kind of hypnotic and keeps my interest up all the way through!

08 bzur - March of the Dark Queen
Very nicely done, but I think I must have overdosed on slow, ominous, cinematic stuff. Would fit very nicely behind any Tolkien movie by Peter Jackson, but I kinda would have needed the movie as well.

09 Folderol - Bring Them Home
Could have ended up higher except I'm not too keen on the "plucked string" solo bit after the lovely intro. Then it picks up again half-way through with the woodwinds and the organ finale is a nice touch.

10 Rylo - The Dead March
The comments on number 8 above actually fits my sentiments regarding this one exactly as well.

Had a great time. Thanks all! Each and every entry was well worth listening to including the ones not making the top 10 for me.

Congratulations to everyone for such a prolific month! I had a very hard time distributing points and was so sad that some songs simply could not get at least a single point, because each had something great in it that deserved my attention. Alas, points are limited to 10 votes in decreasing order, so it seems a bit unfair. Maybe a revision of the voting system where maximum point wuld be equal to the number of entries, so everyone gets at least honorable 1 point may be in order...

Anyway, cheers to all and you are all the winners in my heart this month!

Congratulations to everyone who entered this month - there really weren't any weak tracks at all, and it was hard to sort them into some kind of order. But here goes:

1) Aziraphal - Troll Academy
Superbly produced, with a great collection of sounds both ordinary and exotic. The flutes at the end made me smile.

2) Bzur - March of the Dark Queen
Very skillfully executed and extremely cinematic, with cool brass swells and satisfying low strings.

3) Shangsean - The Robots are Coming
Cool and quirky beat right out of the starting gate - I love it! Nice brass overlay and string accents. The use of the M1 Garand Rifle was nifty as well.

4) Klawire - Bittersweet
Enjoyable and genuinely melancholy. I especially liked the subtle touches of both tuned and untuned percussion.

5) Clarago - Funeral March
Perhaps not always explicitly march-like, but I really like the sound mix, especially toward the beginning. Awesome guitars toward the end.

6) Darko A - Goblin's March
Awesome ambience and disturbing crunching sounds. But quite short!

7) Mister Natural - The Saints
Very groovy - the beat immediately catches and holds my attention. Good vocals, too.

8) Zombie Queen - Bootlegger's March
Unsettling stuff with good bass groove and percussion.

9) Offthewall - Hills of Aberdeen
Tremendously good instrumental components. There was something that didn't hit me quite right about how the vocal part was processed, though.

10) Key88 - March of the What
This one really reminded me of 8-bit NES music (and I mean that in a positive way). It made me want to play some old school video games.

Honourable mention to the rest, which were also uniformly enjoyable.

last minute reviews & votes - common theme this month is obviously orchestration (and that rolling snare which I couldn't figger out how to do in either uTonic or Geist)
1. Aziriphal - magical with it's syncopation and harmonic surprises left & right, all over this piece. Jawharp solo was inspired as was the flute outro bit
2. Folderol - best piece I've heard of yours yet. Simply charming melodies with great transitions. Excellent freaking sounding organs
3. Klawire - great structure & orchestration. Nice dissonance over lovely melodies
4. bzur - more great orchestration with particularly nice brass work. Terrific use of dissonance. Scary, scary shit
5. Shangsean - more excellent orchestration from Sean. Cool melodies and under-melodies(I just made such a thing up :=)
6. key88 - wow, what a fresh take on the theme this month. cool syncopation - is it a bass guitar leading the prog here ?
7. hellfog - kinda confusing intro. Sample from the "Decider" just kills me though. wild efx with the repetitive main melody
8. Laguna Rising - another carnival-esque piece from you - love it. Cool breakdown section . . . and then it's over
9. davidstyles - like a soundtrack to a National Geographic special, almost "heroic" with great horns
10. ClaRago - nicely confused intro with wicked key-guitar parts. Like ghosts dancing
