Woodcock Pilots

Another ornithological song
Woodcock Pilot - an old folk name for the goldcrest, the smallest European bird. People believed the goldcrest would hitch a ride on the back of migrating woodcock as they appeared too small to make the journey by themselves.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~lyrics~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
they come in scores with their heads aglow
bound to the cause of the mistletoe
hey! you're so free
you're so wonderful
I don't know what to be
but I don't care
the woodcock pilots
are coming home
fills the heart with a joy to know
we'll soon depart for the holly holm
hey! you're so free
you're so wonderful
I don't know what to be
but I don't care
the woodcock pilots
are singing lo
lost city
MOD-EDIT: Temporary mirror: http://markleford.com/dock/1406_funkyli ... ofasen.mp3
I found inspiration for this piece by browsing through DeviantArt, particularly at fantasy landscape artwork. This one above ("Lost City of Asen" by flaviobolla) spoke to me, and I imagined it as a scene in a film.
I used Kontakt, with Spitfire Albion for pretty much everything, and Project SAM Orchestra Essentials (for the timpani and glockenspiel). Slight EQ was done with TDR VOS SlickEQ, and I put a touch of ValhallaRoom on the master bus. Project was made inside REAPER. I feel like it jumps around quite a bit; I was trying to keep it short.
Watson and the Shark (Pictures as an Imposition, part 1)
http://markleford.com/music/files/1406_ ... eshark.mp3
Given that I'm typically at a loss for compositional focus, I once got the idea that I should write songs about famous paintings. For my first attempt here, I've chosen John Singleton Copley's "Watson and the Shark".
"Scarves for everyone! Everyone!"
That guy's gettin' eatin' by a shark
That artist has never seen a shark
That guy's gettin' eatin' by a shark
John Copley had never seen a shark
That guy's gettin' eatin' by a shark
That artist has never seen a shark
Albino bein' eatin' by a shark
John Copley had never seen a shark
"Why is there a ginger in my crotch?"
Sharks don't have nostrils or lips
Copley should just stick to ships
