This is a bit of an unusual one for me. A friend came over and he sang/rapped in French and I programmed the beats and engineered the track. I've never really mixed a track with vocals before so any feedback on the mixing would be most appreciated. Or if you think the whole thing stinks then tell me. Be honest...
Thanks for Listening.

This is a lot of fun. I'm hearing Cajun/Zydeco and not just because its in French. It also puts me in mind of how Brazilians can take a genre and turn it on its head to make something new and wonderful.
I wouldn't change anything.

Growing up in the "ghettos" of memphis tn I've heard more rap than i'd ever care to hear again (ears still bleed to this day), but this was very interesting!! Can't say I've heard this combo before.
No valuable mixing advice though. Sorry.

Sorry, I can't help with any mixing advice for those vocals, never having attempted anything like this myself. Although both? of the "rap" lines sounded quite distinct and clear sonically, it might be an idea to separate them in the stereo soundstage, maybe panning one of them more to the left and the other to the right. The song itself was enjoyable and reminded me a little of late '70s/early '80s Talking Heads.
Good work

This was more a happy accident so that's probably why it's a bit different. I have no idea how to produce for rap and the singer had no idea about making music on computers. Thanks for the feedback. It's much appreciated. Shoot me a PM if you ever want me to give feedback on one of your tracks.Ridan wrote:Growing up in the "ghettos" of memphis tn I've heard more rap than i'd ever care to hear again (ears still bleed to this day), but this was very interesting!! Hey Seismic, thanks for the feedback. There are several vocal track layers and your suggestion makes a lot of sense. I will try work on the panning and perhaps EQ the layers subtly differently. I really appreciate you listing to the track. Send me a PM if you have anything you'd like a second pair of ears for.seismic1 wrote:Sorry, I can't help with any mixing advice for those vocals, never having attempted anything like this myself.
