Good grief Snoopy! Go easy on the brickwall limiter.

RATS!!

well it could be worse. it could look like this:

or to a slightly lesser extent, this:

the only stiff compression was on the vocal parts to make them
a little more discernible.

So there was no compression on the bass or brickwall limiting on the overall mix? Cause that bass is pretty loud. I find the mix fatiguing.

there is some compression on the bass, and over all limiting on the whole song.
but nothing extreme. as it never goes under 7 on the DR meter.
as i said, the only STIFF limiting was on the vocals.
i started adding compression on the bass in this song, and you noticed. i'm impressed Frantz 'ol chap!

DR7 - that 's quite low, especially for you. I think the track I'm working on now has a DR of 17, although that will probably drop to 14/15 by the time I've finished messing with it. I didn't really notice the compression on this one whilst playing it until I saw Frantz' comment, and then I noticed that the bass seemed to have a "thinner", drier sound than you usually manage to achieve. I'm not sure whether that's due to the patch or FX processing on the bass, or it could be caused by the limiting or compression. I was only listening at a low volume, so can't say that I found this fatiguing. I liked the light, cheerful melodies. Quita a bouncy track.

Good work :)

thanks for chiming in, Tim!

this is a lesson in compression and it's effects. being a bass lover, i was
trying to make the bass "cut through the mix" but in doing so, ignored the fact
that hard compression thins out ANY sound. the other songs i've done that
used TAL Vintager on bass had no compression applied at all. people do notice the
difference..... back to no compression on the bass! :phones:
