My synth of choice has developed some smart new features over the last few months which I've never actually used 'at the coal face' so maybe that would be an idea for me :)

Mine's inspired by early Todd Rundgren, Scott Walker, Tortoise and Divine Comedy. Keyboards and syncopated beats make it sound a bit like BadBadNotGood (that's actually the name of a group), but not in a good way. If that makes sense. Which it probably doesn't. Just like the track. A long way to go and some hard work ahead to knock it into shape. And that's probably not going to happen. Will have to gloss over the dodgy bits with some quality vocals. :hihi:

How about this:

Words
Don't come easy
to me
How can I find
a way
For me to say
I love you
Words don't come easy

A Muscular Kinda Nurse

By Mad4It

An Original Song
You get on with life as a nurse,
You're a muscular kinda person.
You like practising guitar on Sundays,
You like watching plays in the week.
You like to contemplate tights.
But when you start to daydream,
Your mind turns straight to stockings.

Oh oh oh!

You like to use words like 'chortle,'
You like to use words like 'beerage.'
You like to use words about tights.
But when you stop your talking,
Your mind turns straight to stockings.

Oh oh oh!

You like to hang out with Jason,
You like to kick back with Becky,
But when left alone,
Your mind turns straight to stockings.

Oh oh oh!

You're not too fond of finding dead birds,
You really hate dirty hippos,
But you just think back to stockings,
And you're happy once again.

Oh oh oh!

I reckon I've written worse. Up the swearing and it's a winner.

Just an update to help keep this thread alive. Ditched my proggish project - it just got out of hand. Too complicated making it work.

Went for something simpler, initially inspired by Nirvana, but I can't match the energy so it turned into something REM-ish (just using my references here, I'm not claiming to be anywhere near in terms of quality). It's made me realise I really need to work on my timekeeping - it takes me ages of practice and re-recordings to get decent takes, and even then I have to cut and nudge takes to make the parts stay in time.

There's also lots of back and forth between recording guitar and bass parts ("my" instruments) and editing the drum track in EZDrummer2. It's extremely easy to put together a decent drum track, but adding details, fills, reorganising and making the guitar/bass and the drums work together takes time and effort. In the end I'll probably end up just throwing in the first not completely useless thing I find for fills etc. It makes for an unorthodox, maybe interesting, drumming style. With two weeks left to deadline, I'm happy to say I'm definitely in this time.

Adding a note to myself here: keep guitar parts simple and be relaxed when you play. I get tense whenever I press record. God knows why. Good thing I'm never on a stage.

Ah! Lyrics. Inspired by Holden Caulfield and Kurt Cobain, among others. I happened to see the Cobain documentary Montage of Heck at the same time as I was reading Catcher in the Rye, and there were resonances between them that gave me the basic idea. From then on I just found end rhymes for the lines I had and shoehorned them in as best as I could. Title: Phony Freedom.
