Hi all

I'm pretty new on here as I've only just recently set myself up with a PC recording setup. This is the first song I've recorded as I've been getting to grips with things, and it's dedicated to a friend of mine who died tragically last week. I hope you enjoy it.

I haven't even begun to think about EQ and compression or any of that stuff, so you won't find any of that in this mix. What you're hearing is just the unprocessed sound as it was recorded, I just set some levels and bounced it all down. However, I'd love some comments on how you think it sounds anyway, particularly regarding the drum programming, as this is the first time I've ever done any. The only thing I'm not particularly happy with is the volume of the ride cymbal in the chorus, but that's easily fixed.

Details of recording:
PC running Sonar 4 Studio edition
Drums are in BFD
Piano, synths, bass and shaker are in Hypersonic
Acoustic guitar is just a direct recording from the pickup with a bit of reverb.
Electric guitar parts are recorded with a Line 6 Variax into a Vetta directly recorded from the digital outs.

very nice work, jesse. I think the drum sounds ok, it fits this style.

Sounds very unmastered indeed but you told that.
The drums are pretty good.

Wow, thanks guys. Really appreciate your comments. I'm pretty pleased with it and I seem to be getting the hang of Sonar. Just got to work out what to do with a track once all the parts are recorded (i.e. EQ, compression etc.)

Very emotional, powerful. It doesn't seem like the new setup got in the way of the feeling at all, which is most important. Anything else you'd add to this is just gravy, but I'd say it's "just right" as it stands.

I reckon it is to slow.I think if faster it would still have a languid world weary feel.I like the way it builds as the song progresses.

I guess one of the reasons I did it as slow as I did was to see if I could get programmed drums to have that laid back, slightly behind the beat feel. It's easier to see if it works in a slower piece.
