So, here's my humble attempt at recreating a fond memory of the music that has served to more or less inspire me all my life...The Hipster wrote:
This month's theme brought me nostalgia -- nostalgia for a place called 'The Dive' in Greenwich Village, NYC and the 'Modern/Freeform Jazz' that people could hear there circa 1959 through 1966. It was a 'participatory experience', with people banging spoons on glasses and shouting in rhythm. On the stage were maybe eleven musicians and maybe two mics. Five or six horn players, two percussionists, piano player and bass. One of the horn players would wander over to the one mic they all shared and mumble a few phrases, blow his spit valve, and wander back to blow arrhythmic meloncholy dissonances, while the bass player aimed his F-holes at the drummer so they could share the other mic -- usually on the floor in front of a 25 inch kick -- and the groove.
Maybe later of an evening, wandering down East Nineth St. and into the Dive would be boys with names like Clarke, Duke, Corea and Zappa -- even dudes like Rod Serling, who would pepper his TV episodes of 'Twilight Zone' with some progressive works... Meanwhile, new spots like The Fillmore East and the Psychedelicatessen would soon be hosting young lads with names like Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison...

Cheers & Thanks for listening,Alex wrote: Lyrics:
All my friends go here and there
Do this and that
Wonder where it's at...
They race around with awkward grace
Hearts on fire
Walk the wire...
To find the truth
They fly too high
Tell you the truth
I'll just grab a cab...
