Warning : Ridiculous list of amazing gear you probably can't afford, view at own risk. :help:

So i spent some time dreaming up an awesome DSP based audio workstation system i could buy for under $70,000.00

Anyhow, this is what I came up with.

Apple Mac Pro $11,150.00

2.7GHz 12-core with 30MB of L3 cache
64GB (4 x 16GB) of 1866MHz DDR3 ECC
1TB PCIe-based flash storage
Dual AMD FirePro D700 GPUs with 6GB of GDDR5 VRAM each
Apple USB SuperDrive
Apple Thunderbolt Display (27-inch)
Apple Magic Mouse
Apple Wireless Keyboard - English (USA)
User's Guide (English)
Apple Thunderbolt Cable (2.0 m) - Black
Apple Thunderbolt to FireWire Adapter
Mini DisplayPort to VGA

Apple 27-Inch Thunderbolt Display $1000.00

Magma ExpressBox 3T #1 $1000.00
TB PCie Expansion for UAD Cards

Magma Expressbox 3T #2 $1000.00
TB PCie Expansion for HDX Cards

UA UAD2 Octo Ultimate 2 $5495.00
UA UAD2 Two Octo DSP Cards $3450.00

Avid 3x Protools HDX Cards $23316.00

Prism ADA-8XR 16AD-PTHD $14319.00

Sonnet Echo ExpressCard Pro $170.00
Thunderbolt Adapter

Sonnet Firewire 800 Pro $100.00
ExpressCard/34

Avid MC Artist Control V2 $1665.00
Avid MC Artist Mix #1 $1398.00
Avid MC Artist Mix #2 $1398.00

Everything added up would come to $65,461.00
(Taxes & Shipping not included)

Now putting that all together would provide some insane amount of DSP based audio processing. Actually it would be almost ridiculous. Of course I can't afford that stuff, but I thought it would be fun to do anyways. If i win the lotto you'll know what I'll be buying though..

You know what the wife will say VORT3X :hihi:

Happy Musiking!

My DAW System:
W7, i5, x64, 8Gb Ram, Edirol FA-101

Looks good, except there isn't much to run on graphics dsp for DAW usage so the FirePro D700 GPUs are wasted.

I would choose 2 of Intel Xeon E5-2697 v2 and this ASUS Z9PA-D8C, 2xSocket-2011 motherboard instead ;)

Well i do video editing as well, so i figure i'd be using this for Final Cut Pro stuff as well as music and audio editing.

I would be hard pressed to buy anything from ADK, as the numerous comments on several forums I've noticed; that even in support of them, they appear to also show a great percentage of part failures.

Have you also calculated how much this shiny computer el dorado stuff will be worth five years from now? Prepare to weep...

Hm I've never seen these posts but if that's true I guess it would be better to just buy a similar setup and built it yourself.

Well if i bought this stuff and put it in a good studio environment i would be renting it out to broke ass people (like me) for decent prices so i would'nt lose too much.

However yes moores law makes it hard to spend big money on fancy stuff like this.

Don't forget your Emulator Elite for $15,500, Kyma Pacarana for $4,400 and Scope Xite for $3,800
Amazon: why not use an alternative

That calculation leaves all computers worthless in the end...
The question is how long can you use it, despite the technological advancements ahead.

We either pay up front or get it on the back end dump.
Or build on the same system as we go.

Had to look up the Emulator elite, and as cool as it looks I don' t think I would buy it even if i had the money.

Kyma is definitely a good one to add though! I suppose the Xite would be too, but they don't seem to be updating much.

And, since moore's law is bust, a well-kept system COULD hold it's value.

Maybe the apple system, the apple stuff tends to hold its value way more than PCs. I sold my +€1000 system of 2006 for €30 in 2014... My 18" TFT for which I paid 2200DM in the year 2000 is now worth a pizza and a drink from the friend I gave it to.
I know, it is just the way it goes and I used the stuff for years, but still...
I wouldn't buy the aforementioned computer setup even though I could afford it...
