This thread is bothering me a lot because I'm currently planning to get a Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 and put together a system around that.

These interfaces cannot possibly be as bad as the experience described in the thread, can they? It's giving me cold feet.

I have a 2i2 and it's a great sounding, simple little interface. I wouldn't worry about the 18i20 unless you don't have a clue how to set up an audio device in your daw. If you do have issues, the focusrite site has install videos available.

I'm guessing user error over faulty electronics at play in this thread.

Someone asked whether you are using a laptop and I don't think an answer was given? I once connected a USB Presonus Audiobox to a Toshiba laptop and it sounded distorted and horrible. I thought it was a driver issue, but after some brain-storming, it turned out to be that I needed to use an external powered USB hub-because the laptops wasn't powerful enough to handle the power load of the audioBox.

@ jamesot, have 18i20 here coupled with Focusrite Octopre Mk 2 Dynamic. Before the 18i20 was using the Saffire Pro 40. All 3 units been rock solid. Gigged with all of them as well as a FOH system with Soundcraft EPM 12 mixing board. All bands been more than happy. Hope this may alleviate any doubts.

I don't work for Focusrite I just like their gear. The 18i20 is a dependable workhorse.

I am absolutely satisfied with my 2i2 since I've got it.
Based on what I read, and assuming you've been through some googling yourself- I think you had a faulty unit.

this is so not the norm. its the presonus audiobox usb that sucks. the 2i2 is awesome and sounds great. i love mine. sound wise its very clear. and can also be very loud with no distortion. i actually just returned a presonus audio box usb and replaced it with a 2i2. do a serch on the 2i2. hard to find a lot of complaints most people thinks its a great interface.

sweetwater lists the 2i2 as the most popular, best selling interface in there shop. again, this is NOT the norm.

wanted to update this to not give an incorrect review because I was using the wrong cable with the scarlette 2i2 which might have been the cause of the noise. Was using non TRS or TS cables, not sure what type but they were wrong.

Got a Focusrite 2i2 but it sounds terrible
