hello peeps.
question: i'm trying to record a live dj set with my laptop using cool edit. i've done 1.5 hour sets before at home and recorded them no problem. the thing is i want to record the full set at the dance club, which is about four hours long. what happens is that a four hour wav file is humongus, and i'm afraid i'll kill my laptop. is there a way of doing this where i can save the file while recording so that i can free up the....hmmmm...temp? ram? cache?? is it bad to do this?
peace, b.

Sorry man, this response is of no help to you cause I can't answer that question However, you could answer me this question (possibly), or maybe someone else can (not trying to hijack your thread or anything mate)
Anyway, I'm wanting to do what you're already doing i.e. recording dj sets onto computer. I have a AMD Athlon 3200, 1Gb RAM, 2x 80Gb hardrives and am using a M-Audio Delta 410 soundcard (at the mo I'm only using the 2 outputs for my monitors, no other leads are being used). I just want to know how I hook the dex & mixer up. I'm guessing I'm gonna have to connect the dj mixer to the Delta breakout cables. But, please help (also help Pascual if you can seeing as I couldn't)

Go on, tweak it some more

ironically, this will probably be of no help to you, but I record my sets using a CD recorder via my amp, I then import the CDA files onto my pc for normalising etc...works for me!

Go to www.highctriteria.com and check out the Total Recorder. For $25 you can record audio directly from your sound card in any format. I use it to record radio shows that are 4 to 5 hours long with no problems. I do not think it will interfere with your DJing. I prefer to save them as Ogg files, they sound almost as good as a wav but are much smaller than MP3s.
You may also be interested in some of the newer long play MiniDiscs. They can record about 5 hours. I am not sure of the quality. Mine doesn't have the long play recording. There is microphone for iPod that may work for you, but it may be mono only.

If you have a smartphone you could use iRig Recorder (for example) or any other free recording app.

CoolEditPro should be able to capture 4 hours. But only if you have enough free disk space.
Try at home first, and test what happens when writing a wav larger than 2gb. Cant promise it goes beyond that limit.
If you have a small pause or not so interesting point in the set, use that to start a new session.

Record it as 4 * 1 hour recordings. Easier to manage after.
