Maybe check that you have the latest drivers installed (audio interface, Midi whatever) and that all plugins are updated to the latest versions (unlike myself).jc_vt wrote:Other than a backup, any prep/precautions advised before the upgrade?
El Capitan - is it safe? (now)

I turned Carbon Copy's regular backup off for a couple of weeks after a final backup of Yosemite just so I don't overwrite it with El Cap stuff till I'm sure it's all OK and don't need to go back to it. That way I have a bootable snapshot of my OS just before I upgraded.

speaking of favourite mac utilities is nice.aMUSEd wrote:I was forced to ditch Totalfinder and look for something new due to SIP - anyone looking for a decent enhanced Finder, Pathfinder is totally brilliant, my new favourite Mac utility along with CloudMounter. It's incredibly powerful.
I didn't know path finder, but using it now with pleasure hehe.

Took the plunge and also upgraded the big studio Mac Pro (latest ashtray version), after updating my Avid/Euphonic MC Mix software that control also works fine again (EU Control version 3.4 released May 2016), the RME drivers work fine too - I think I'm all set for the next few years to come.

My only issues are beach ball (even when selecting a subsequent track), slow to type text in Safari mostly, and sometimes GUIs are first black before they fill in (not with DAW or plugin GUI... More like Finder menu bar upon startup, sometimes RME Windows when they are launched, or regular finder window. Don't know if video card is just not enough anymore? Would really like to rid the beach ball issue. Anyone see things like this and know how to fix?

This is interesting - the old NI plugins Vokator and Spectral delay are running better in El Cap than they did in Yosemite. In Yosemite I was getting graphics glitches, particularly with Vokator, but in El Cap they are gone and everything seems much snappier graphically (except in Bitwig, which I think is more due to the wrapper).
