I've been using teh Vaio Canvas Z for the past year but it's been mainly for work (though I've also had music stuff on it), which has been cool since it's a touch screen tablet hybrid thing and also has 1TB SSD and a quad core i7. Pretty rare specs still today!
Unfortunately I will have to give back the computer soon so I will have to buy a personal one. I'd like to keep the touch screen/pen functionality, but also want to keep 1TB SSD. Screen size isn't super important, but I do want a full sized SD card slot. Could be a 360 laptop hybrid or surface stye tablet.
Any suggestions? So far I think the best I've found is the HP Spectre x360 (2017). It's only a dual core which is too bad but otherwise looks pretty good and not too pricey. Also has a 15 inch screen version with the SD card slot and can be 1TB SSD.
Anything I'm missing?

Have you considered a custom build? SCAN may have what you want. I bought a 17" quad core i7 with 3 1TB SSDs from them recently.

I've not heard of SCAN. I took a quick look but it seems like it might be a bit pricey and couldn't tell if they do pen supported touch screens but thanks for the info.
Still interested in what pre-made 2-in-1's are out there. The only other one I saw that meets these requirements is the surface book or surface pro, but they are quite a bit more pricey.

My laptop wasn't advertised on their site. I called them up, told them what I needed, and they built it for me. It wasn't cheap, but its exactly what I wanted.Echoes in the Attic wrote:I've not heard of SCAN. Yes, I'm afraid so. The Spectre is running a U series chip, where as the Sony was running a HQ series chip. U series chips are seriously scaled back for power saving and that U chip has roughly half the performance as the HQ model. That's where the cost saving is coming from.Echoes in the Attic wrote:I've been using teh Vaio Canvas Z for the past year but it's been mainly for work (though I've also had music stuff on it), which has been cool since it's a touch screen tablet hybrid thing and also has 1TB SSD and a quad core i7. I'm pretty impressed with that Vaio on paper to be fair, I can see where the cost came from as that's a great laptop spec in a tablet.
I don't think we've got any touch laptops in at the moment, the models seem to crop up occasionally from our supplier and then disappear again. We don't do hybrid tablets however.Echoes in the Attic wrote:I've not heard of SCAN. I'm pretty sure all those are "U" class chips as well. I doubt your going to find cheap "good" option here, as you note in your original post the form factor is rare enough to begin with. The only other one I saw that meets these requirements is the surface book or surface pro, but they are quite a bit more pricey.

Yes most 2-in-1's are u series dual core.
I did however come across a more powerful hybrid. The Lenovo 720 came out recently and it's a 15 inch hybrid with a quad core chip. I th No it's the only one beside the vaio canvas z. Everything look great about it except that it has no ad card slot. D'oh! I keep my music and sample libraries on a 512gb sd card, which really helps when you only have 1tb ssd. That would be a huge bummer to lose that.
So it seems to be either the hp spectre or the Lenovo. Better battery and sd card with hp but half the performance of the Lenovo. I wonder if a 2 tb ssd could be put into the Lenovo.

Sorry to come in late on this - but just a quick warning to avoid the surface book.
I finally had to send mine back for a warranty replacement after two catastrophic unrecoverable bsods within last 3 months.
MS store guy basically said it was my fault for only doing critical updates promptly...so critical updates are not enough to avoid tanking the machine?
