The second is to a hack method that might have worked when the audio system was first introduced but gives the same latency as every other app now, plus some crackling no doubt due to his unsafe writing method. (I just compiled and ran his example)
What we've got now is very similar to the first article, minus the nice callback (which isn't a big deal). The problem is when he says:In this case Android answers with a ridiculously high value (the one you see in Caustic's menu) and you can't go below that or the system will refuse to play your audio signal.App asks: how many audio blocks do I need to keep prepared and primed in the queue to guarantee no break-up, at this rate/format, with minimal latency?
There's no magic to this. Either: Google fixes it in the OS and forces manufacturers to stick to the guidelines or you build your own ROM with some of the alternative methods out there, none of which work on all devices yet

So I bought a fairly okay discount Android Phone:
http://aldi.medion.com/md98910/nord/?refPage=aldi
However when I try to download Caustic 2, it tells me that my device isn' t compatible with the program.
The phone is a Medion Life P4310 with a 800 Mhz processor and 512 Mb ram. It runs Android 2.3.5 and it's core system is 2.6.35-perf+ .
So why is my phone not compatible with Caustic 2?
(works fine with Sunvox)

I think it might have something to do with the size of the APK. It looks like anything over 10Mb will not be offered on some devices. I'm sure it's something to do with the device not reporting its internal storage space correctly, or not reporting it at all and Google assume the minimum is 10Mb.IncarnateX wrote:So I bought a fairly okay discount Android Phone:

Anyway, I put both the demo and the key on AndroidPit, or you can just pull the APK from here if you don't have an account with AP and just want to try:

Let me know if that works...

Thanks a lot for your explanation. Unfortunately I am all new to android, so I am not really sure what to do with the apk. you posted. I do not know what Android pit or an account with AP is either. Do you have the time to direct me a little on this?SingleCell wrote: I think it might have something to do with the size of the APK. AndroidPIT is a place you can buy Android apps if you sign up. Apparently this would allow you to bypass some weird Google limitation.
I am no expert, this is how it works on my phone (HTC Incredible):
I use ES File Explorer to navigate inside my phone:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... .pop&hl=en
ES is a free app that lets you navigate just like windows explorer, create folders, rename files, etc.
Click on the above link, click install.
Go to the second link SingleCell provided, download the Caustic 2 demo.
Find the ES icon in your phone and open it up. You will be looking at your SD card drive.
You'll see a "download" folder on the SD card drive in your phone. That's where the Caustic .apk will be. Click that and the Caustic demo will install. If the demo works you can buy the key from SingleCell at the link he provided for AndroidPIT, but you'll have to join up first.

Thnx Cordelia. I have now managed to download the demo, but everytime I start it, it tells me that it has stopped again. Apparently my phone cannot run for for some reason

Oh no, I hate that news. Maybe there is still hope for some settings adjustment or something...IncarnateX wrote:Thnx Cordelia. I have now managed to download the demo, but everytime I start it, it tells me that it has stopped again. Apparently my phone cannot run for for some reason

The processor might not be compatible (the whole ARMv7 vs ARMv6 thing), I couldn't find anything about the processor on the Aldi page.IncarnateX wrote:Thnx Cordelia. Edit: I found some info, it IS ARMv6.
I'll PM you another link to try...you'll need to tick "allow non-market sources" in your phone's Settings menu..Applications to allow it to install.

It works and sounds friggin GREAT
Now can I just unlock it buying the "key" or do you need to fix that too before I can do that?
Thanks a whole bloody lot. Also you Cordelia.

Cool, no worries. And yes, the AndroidPit key will work with the version you have. Key bought, downloaded and installed. Works!
Caustic 2 rocks my socks.
Together with my iPad 2 and iPod 4g, I now got the best of two worlds.

Damn it. Seems like my problems ain' t over yet. Caustic tells me that I can learn more from the menu. But I can't find any menu function nor export. Android tells me that both Caustic and it' s key is installed, so what is wrong here?
I need a manual but can not find anyone downloadable on the net. Where to get?

Your phone must have a menu key. The icon is usually a few horizontal lines at the bottom of the device.IncarnateX wrote:Damn it. Seems like my problems ain' t over yet. Okay, it works.. Thanks. Though it is not easy to be new to Android I must say. And there are still few problems, namely that I can not buy any of the expansion packs from the play store because it still says my device is not compatible. So I can only buy from the AndroidPit but none of the packs are uploaded there. Seems like I have to do without them.
