Is there anyway to sequence the electribe iPad app? I was very disappointed to realize there was no song mode.

Post

Hi NaturalDissolve,

Beatmaker 2, Genome, Midi Pattern Sequencer - just some of your options. All the best. <3

Post

Thanks man, nice cause I already have beat maker 2. Hopefully I can figure it out. Any tips?

I do believe Electrivibe is Audiobus-compatible, as is BM2. So if you get Audiobus (an amazing app, btw), it'll allow you to pipe Electrivibe into BM2.

I tried audiobus and think it's only for audio. I want to send a midi signal to change the pattern in the Electribe. I'll probably use audio bus to record on top with animoog.

Post

I don't believe there is a way to sequence iElectribe via Midi.

iELECTRIBE v1.2 adds MIDI control capabilities by using the Apple Core MIDI features found in iOS 4.2, via the Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit and external USB-MIDI devices.

Please note

MIDI channel is fixed on 10ch.
Please update your iPad to iOS 4.2 or later.
The Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit is required.
Some USB bus-powered MIDI devices need a USB hub with power supply.
Please set up the MIDI settings on your external USB-MIDI device.

Note / Bank Select / Program Change

You can trigger and produce drum sounds by using an external pad's USB-MIDI controllers. Also, you can change a pattern via Bank Select and Program Change.

Thank you! That is helpful. I could use my mpc 500 to sequence it.

Is there there really no way to send it midi from app to app?

Still this is still really annoying. This could have been solved if they included song mode. Hopefully we will see an update with song mode soon.

I really doubt it. I think they deliberately withheld the song mode just to give you a taste of an electribe because they didn't want it to cut into the hardware sale.

I've owned quite a few electribes over the years. They are all good.

Post

Well I gave it a 1 star review cause of no song mode. ;) Hopefully they will fix it. Korg needs to come out with a new Electribe anyway. One that is not based on the archaic smart media.

I found this:

http://www.iosmusician.com/2012/08/beat ... rough.html

Gonna try it tonight. Sounds like genome might handle virtual midi better. Anyone tried it?

You can use app to app or whatever, don't know why they insist about using the camera kit, I think pretty much any midi port will do, just make sure you send the data on channel 10.

You could emulate song mode by triggering different program change midi messages from a sequencer and midi clock to keep things synchronised.
A bit wierd that they have a song mode on their synth but not on electribe.

Ok cool, getting closer. Can't get beatmaker to send the correct signal. I guess it's some weird hex code? Was hoping I could just hit the key in the korg. Maybe I have the midi routed wrong. Beatmaker will trigger the korg, so that's a start. It doesn't start at the beginning though, which is weird.

First make sure that midi out is checked and electribe is used as midi out port. (Options-midi)
If you want to send the notes from bm2 don't send the clock or this will play the electribe patterns.

Make sure you set the output channel to 10 on the instrument or drum machine track.
Then hit the keys or pads(bank C) and you should hear the electribe.

Not sure bm2 is the best app for that, kind of sucks imo, but then it may be user limitation as I never use it.

Code: Select all

Bank	Pattern Number	mm	bb	pp (hex)
A	01-32	00	00	0-31
B	01-32	00	00	32-63
C	01-32	00	00	64-95
D	01-32	00	00	96-127
E	01-32	00	01	0-31
To trigger a pattern change you need to send 3 messages, always on channel 10.

cc0 = 0
cc32 =0 except for bank E where cc32=1
then send a program change value 0 to 31

example to trigger C2:
CC0=0. CC32=0 PC=65

to trigger E20:
CC0=0. CC32=1 PC=19

By default Genome doesn't have CC0 and CC32 in the list, but you can add them using the plus button.

Now I'm not sure in which order Genome will send them, so it's probably better to add these at different time, one on beat 1, then on beat 2 and the patch change on beat 3 and configure electribe to change pattern on the next beat or bar to keep things tight.

If you work only with one bank you may as well use a pattern in genome to set both CC and then you just need to send the program change message.

Also make sure genome sends the midi out clock.

There is a pretty good video of mSequencer controlling iElectribe...does some pretty cool things.
