Hi, there,

Can anyone give me any suggestions on what ipad apps are good for this type of thing:

I need a way to quickly input MIDI data using the ipad as a control device, to then export to use in the sequencer of choice on the PC.

I don't have a keyboard controller or drum pad, and I'm wondering how to best is the ipad for this, IF the main application is to qiuckly write the data for export into bigger projects on my PC.

I'm just not finding I can "compose" with the MIDI tools on the PC with a mouse that well, and the hardware options I have don't allow me to get external controllers.

Anyone know of any apps that can do a good, fast job, of "writing" a MIDI track which I can then export for things into my PC?

Thanks,

- Paul

Cubasis might be worth a look.
Projects from Cubasis can be opened in Cubase.

Thanks a million.

I was going to port it over to ProTools on a Mac.

I'm not sure I'm going to stick with the same app on the ipad.

Is this still something that could work?

I'm not willing to give up $50 just to try it, if you know what I mean.

Thanks,

- Paul

The list of Apps that can export midi files is as long as your arm

Off the top of my head,

If you want to go from a piano roll based approach you have
, Music Studio, EZ composer pro.

I think cubasis only exports to Cubase but I could be wrong

For a score based approach
Symphony Pro, Symphonix Evolution

Drum Machines
Drum Studio or RoboDrummer

Guitar
EchoGuitar Pro

Synth
NlogPro will let you record a midi file.

And there's others that escape me right now.

Happy hunting :)

The latest Computer Music has a mini review of v. 2 of the FLS app.

I have it, but I only possess a rudimentary understanding of what it can do.

For what you are doing I would forget the iPad and get a control surface type device with keys, pads, knobs etc.
As much as I love the iPad, I use an external keyboard or drum trigger 90% of the time.

For unique midi data entry Animoog and Guitarism have some nice control characteristics.

Garageband would be great too due to the smart instrument interfaces, but sadly no midi export support yet. Maybe someday soon???
