I bought the Chordbot app some time ago and find it useful, fun and easy to use (for more traditional rock/ballads). What about similar other apps like iRealB or Mobile Music Sequencer, are they useful for composing and capturing ideas?

For iReal b, sure you can borrow ideas and all from it but the app is I think, basically more intended for jazz players and alike, for who already can apply music theory onto her instrument... I haven't used it lately but if my memory serves it doesn't do automatic reharmo. Also it doesn't indicate any voicing but only chord name. So it's more like learning/practice tool than composition tool, IMHO.
Well, on the second thought, yes, it could be very useful to steal some nice chord sequence indeed The thing is, however, the style of automatic playing is so limited on sound, rhythm and especially voicing, and that's the big part of music.

Have a look at session band
You pop in a chord progression then choose tempo and style and off it goes.

Session Band could work for that use, but it is a rather large download though.BiancaNeve wrote:Have a look at session band

The tempo is limited too. You can only change the tempo up or down a few BPM for each style.
I have Session Band Jazz and Acoustic, but the Acoustic version has the problem of cutting off sustained strums awkwardly. The Jazz version is very nice sounding and could be used live for backing tracks.

Hey,
I've just noticed that thread. Have you seen Songtive for iPhone/iPod/iPad?
See: http://www.songtive.com for more details.
It's still pretty young app (about a month) but it's still growing and dev team is working on the new major features of app. Recently they added ability to set solo tracks, scale chords UI - the upcoming update will contain inversions. Let them know if you are looking for some missing features. Check out the following songs are created by Songtive app:

BTW, Songtive was created from huge number of user suggestions from Piano Companion app for Android/iOS/WP/W8.1 see more details over here:

Especially the circle of fifths option is very responsive and helpfull (although not directly related to the OP's question).

Yeah but the Session Band pricing structure is sooooo expensive...I mean to get all three Jazz packs is well over $40 (in Oz) if I wanted to get all the packs for all genres I am looking at well over $100+martygras wrote:Session Band could work for that use, but it is a rather large download though.BiancaNeve wrote:Have a look at session band
